Hendry is a small estate winery located in the south-western Napa valley. Our 117 acres of vineyard lie on gently sloping terrain between 160 and 290 feet in elevation. Thin stony soils and moderate climate allow the production of a wide range of varietals. Most of this property has belonged to the Hendry family since 1939. At Hendry, we stress the importance of the vineyard, and we devote much of our time to understanding its variation on small scales. Combination of soil, climate, varietal and clone are critical, and for this reason, we have divided our vineyard into 50 different blocks, each managed separately. To us, every block is a learning experience that teaches us about interactions among these variables, and how they influence fruit composition and wine quality. Small changes in any of them can have dramatic effects on the wine. There has beem vineyard on this property for more than 140 years, and we have been farming here for nearly half that time. As our knowledge grows, our vineyard blocks Read more »

  • Hendry Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2011

Fresh, slightly floral nose. Very interesting combination of fruit flavors on introduction to the palate--Green apple, Kiwi, Peach, even Pineapple and a touch of Lemon. Acid is the combining component. Not your California butter bomb Chardonnay, but not your subtle complex Burgundy style either. However, as the wine warms up a bit, it does s... Read More

  • I can probably count the number of winemakers that I have met on one hand.  Invariably, though, I would describe them as approachable, open, and gracious people.  They have consistently treated me with tremendous respect and actually listen to my questions or my opinions as if they have never heard them before.  Their responses are always detail... They offer a bunch of really nice whites (Albarino, Pinot Gris among them) for $20. Anything that lowers CA wine prices is, in my book, a good thing. • Hendry Napa Valley Albarino 2013

Very much a floral nose with some strawberry scent and, maybe, even a Gewurztraminer-like spiciness. On the palate lots of fruitstrawberry, again, and, maybe, banana, but acid suggests stone fruit and citrus. Kind of a cloying finish might discourage some, but the fruity aftertaste lingers for literally minutes. Read More
