The magnificent sweep of country that is now the Heggies Vineyard had been grazing land for most of its settled history and was owned by local grazier and bushman, Colin Heggie, before being purchased by Wyndham Hill Smith, then Manager of the Yalumba Wine Company. Friends since school days, Colin and Wyndham's friendship continued into adulthood and throughout their lengthy negotiation over the purchase of Heggie's land - a negotiation that was, it has been suggested, not a lot more than an excuse for relaxed chats about land, cattle, horses, wine and life! Planting began in 1971 on the tough North Eastern corner of the property and the first wine was released in 1979. It was the first wine to bear the idiosyncratic label that features a drawing of Colin Heggie, the bushman, looking out over the fledgling Heggies plantings astride his faithful chestnut, Jack. – Description from dvoristanac

    Snoothrank:

Very citrusy and herbal on the nose with big lemon and lime pith aromas paired with smoky fennel seed and dried tarragon notes and just a suggestion of vanilla. A bit tart and certainly compact on entry, this unfolds slowly on the palate with cool if slightly creamy white fruits and chalky minerality. Turning surprisingly soft and creamy in the ... • Heggies Vineyard Chardonnay Eden Valley Single Estate 2007

    Snoothrank:

Nose of tropical fruit with a whiff of French oak. Color of pale yellow. Entry is pleasing, with a somewhat neutral (bland) effect on the palate, but pleasing and refreshing all the same. Medium finish with hints of cooking spice, but generally light, pure and fresh. A well-crafted Chardonnay that should accompany many light dishes and work ... Read More

  • Heggies Vineyard Chardonnay Eden Valley Single Estate 2007

    Snoothrank:

Clear pale lemon. Classy oak nose, medium intensity. You can almost smell the tightness of the grain in that French oak, along with a bit of lemon, and some toast. On the palate, oak, butter, lemon. Medium acidity. Long, long finish you pick up the glass out of habit and realise you can still taste it. Bags of class. Outstanding, and at this pr... Read More
