Hartwood winery opened in the spring of 1989 in the rural community of Hartwood, Virginia. Hartwood is an area long known for its heavy deer population. Hart is the Old English word for deer, and according to local legend is the basis for the area's name; and in turn the winery's logo. Owner JIM LIVINGSTON, his wife BEVERLY and their partner DAVE BARBER, are the nucleus of Hartwood Winery. Jim and Beverly make the wines and manage the vineyard; while Dave, a wine educator, lends his expertise to tasting, special functions and Winemaker's Dinners. Jim has been involved with Virginia wine since 1975. He established, with the help of family and friends, the first Stafford County commercial vineyard in 1981 and farm winery in 1989. Hartwood Winery is pleased to announce that Jennifer Leibowitz will be working our tasting room and festivals.
