Bob Hartwell's passion for wine stems from his decades as an avid collector. Bob, a fourth generation Californian, has over thirty years of success in the aerospace and plumbing industries. As a successful manufacturer of quality products, Bob has never been a stranger to striving for quality over quantity at any cost. He has always known that the best quality materials result in the best quality products. Bob's obsession with producing the best didn't stop at the manufacturing plant. Bob knew that fulfilling the dream of owning his own vineyard meant finding the best place to grow the best Cabernet Sauvignon. With the help of a respected wine consultant, he found the property he had been searching for. The unplanted hillside in the Stag's Leap District, now Hartwell Estate, was the birthplace of his dream. Dick Grace shared his Bouche Clone from Grace Family Vineyards, and collaborated with Bob on Hartwell's very first production. In 1990 after 22 months in new French oak barrels, the wine, 100% Cabernet Read more »

  • Hey everyone, what are some of your favorite 'everyday' or M-F types of wines to accompany a regular dinner?  I personally have enjoyed the Montoya Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, and I usually pick it up from Total Wines out here in Virginia.  This is one of those fruit-forward cabs that isn't too complex for me to appreciate, and it usually cost... • Hartwell Misti Hill Cab 2006

    Snoothrank:

The nose opens to herbal notes with a hot spicy edge. The palate lacks strong fruit, but zings the back with herb-infused spice, bitter chocolate and vegetable flavors, including red cabbage and beets. A long, zesty finish salivates the mid-tongue as the front dries delightfully and firm tannins frame a medley of fleeting notes of dark fruits,... Read More

  • Hartwell Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District Divine 2006

    Snoothrank:

Dark chocolate, beef blood, black cherry, and coffee bean note greet the nose. In the mouth this has a bit of an inky, grainy feel to it showing a lot of extraction. Its a rich, powerful and dense style of wine that would benefit from a few more years in the cellar to smooth off some of the aggressive edges. The mid-palate is full of bitter choc... Read More
