In 1980, Jeff Gordon, along with his wife, Vicki and brother Bill decided to plant wine grapes on a sagebrush-covered slope overlooking the Snake River in southeastern Washington’s Columbia Valley. In 1985, he released his first small lot of Chardonnay wine produced from their estate vines, and today the Gordon Brothers brand is growing in both production and acclaim. Before planting the vineyard, Jeff sought out the expertise of Walt Clore, the “Father of Washington Wine.” Together the two inspected a 200-acre parcel of sagebrush-covered land near the confluence of the Snake and Columbia Rivers. Walt strongly approved of the land that would soon become Gordon Brothers. At the time the vineyard was planted, there were 19 wineries in Washington and less than 5,000 acres of winegrapes in production. Jeff and Vicki quickly fell in love with the camaraderie of the small, but remarkably supportive winemaking community. Now, the Washington wine industry has grown to over 300 wineries and 30,000+ acres Read more »

  • Gordon Brothers Merlot Columbia Valley Estate Grown 2007

The wine is a deep, inky purple, almost black at the center of the glass, typical of a classic Merlot (and don't give me any of your sideways comments!). The nose is very attractive, with notes of black fruit overlaid with some nice cedar, leather and a hint of cocoa powder. The taste is classic Merlot, but with a bit of a twist, as it's somew... • I need some help finding a under $15 Merlot.  For years my go-to Merlot was Clos du Bois North Coast because it had soft tannins, lush red/dark fruit and a silky mouthfeel/finish.  The '12 and '13 vintages had a spice component that I didn't like so Merlot, hasn't been in my lineup.  I recently tried an Old World Merlot, Clos de la Moriette, whi... • Gordon Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley Estate Grown 2005

Nose of rich blackberry jam. Accented with a slight grilled herb-tinged black currant. Light flecks of vanilla aroma and some bitter chocolate. Upon first opening, palate was a bit stewed with lots of black plum skin and flesh. Opened up after a while to reveal mouth-watering gobs of ripe berry juice. Dark flavors of black currant, blackber... Read More

  • Gordon Brothers Kamiak Rock Lake Red 2007

Funky on the nose with plenty of hints of truffle, game, and pencil eraser over plummy, dried berry, black cherry and herb laced fruit. A bit plump on entry, but with plenty of acidity to keep this focused in the mouth. There's plenty of truffle and black currant fruit right on entry, then it lightens up a bit and reveals a bit more detail with ... Read More

An enjoyable WA cab and still a great value but this wasn't the best showing from Gordon Bros. I've had. Still it had nice fruit and firm structure, perhaps a tad too much acidity for my taste. Read More
