  • Hi! I've been quite busy with travel for work so I've been off the radar a bit. I unexpectedly had a few days free so I took a last minute trip to Portland for a few days - I'm there now. Tomorrow we were planning on driving out of town to do some wine tasting, etc....probably McMinnville. I was too busy and tired to really make any plans for th... Read More

  • Sadly I did Not. I had a busy weekend that involved wine, but sadly that was mostly inventorying, packing, and moving wine around the state of NY! Got about a dozen cases moved closer to home, so now I'm pretty well set for the next few months of drinking! Next bottle up looks like it might very well be 1987 Dunn Napa Valley. Funny how Dunn was ... Read More

  • So what does a wine and food writer do in his free time, you ask? Or perhaps have not asked, since it’s pretty boring stuff that involves Google maps, TripAdvisor and numerous internet searches. You see, what I do and happen to like doing is planning out trips. Trips that I may or may not end up taking, but getting all the details lined up can ma... Read More

  •  Since my queries of this nature are usually tagged to the end of other threads of (somehwat) related nature, I figured I'd start one of dedicated nature. Hopefully this'll be easier to search for and come back to in the future. Here's an offer from HDH in Chicago. Anything of particular interest, or of relatively good pricing? This offer seems a... • Hi Everyone,New here so be gentle. Ever since I've heard about "Mega-purple" I've tried to do as much research on the topic as possible. Most people on the retail side either don't know about it or claim ignorance. Once I picked up on what I perceived to be M/P I've had a hard time getting passed it. Michael and David's 7 Deadly Zins seems to be... Read More

  • Goose Bay Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2005

Pale chartreuse colored. Little particles visible (a little too small to be tartaric acid, maybe?), perhaps just unfined or unfiltered? Very green aromas/flavors. Bell pepper, peas, and slightly fennel. Palate follows closely. Unpleasantly herbacious. Read More

  • Goose Bay Pinot Noir New Zealand 2006

Light and fruit forward, a little more than I'd like, but very easy to drink and popular. The nose has good dark cherries, some pipe tobacco and hints of light brown leather. The mouth lacks the minerality that I'd like, but has some even smooth tannins, lots of fruit, and a hint of kumquat on the finish. Read More
