It has been more than hundred years since California wine pioneer Jean Laurent quarried stone from the base of Glass Mountain in Napa Valley to build his wine cellar. That cellar stands today and serves as both a literal and figurative link to the past and Laurent's guiding principles of quality and values. In 1978, Bruce Markham, a California businessman with a passion for wine, purchased the old winery and launched Markham Vineyards, the parent of Glass Mountain Wines. From the beginning, Bruce Markham's vision was to make quality wines, while contributing to the preservation and growth of the wine industry. As a result, The Markham Winery has developed a reputation of high regard as a producer of world-class wines. Commitment to producing exceptional wines has earned Markham the cover of Wine Spectator magazine and a steady stream of accolades from the press. – Description from JasminaDragoljevic

  • Château Morrisette Chardonnay Blend Sweet Mountain Laurel NV

I just uncorked my first bottle by this winery and had a glass of this Sweet Mountain Laurel variety with my late lunch of crackers, brie, and fig preserves. This winery is not many miles from my home here in the hills of the Blue Ridge and what a delightful neighbor to have! I just love it (and that's saying a LOT). This reminds me of my favo... • Friday was going to be a good day.  Sandra was only working around 4 hours so we could enjoy the nice weather out here and ride the Harley touring bike to a winery for a little wine tasting.  We found one that sounded good - Bluemont Winery in Bluemont, VA (not far from Leesburg VA if you know the area).  The traffic wasn't yet building up to it... Wow, very dark in the glass. Big black fruit nose. Lots of black fruit on the tongueblackberry, plumbut this is also a sturdy wine. Mountain fruit (45% Napa County/45% Sonoma County) makes for a big, mouth filling wine. Still very serious tannins in this one, excellent acid, also. Im glad Im drinking this one, tonight, but I think it still ... Read More

  • v v, I have never tried an Insignia.  I do have one bottle in my inventory--from the somewhat maligned 1997 vintage.  As I suspect you might be aware, on, I believe, the "Watcha drinking. . . ." thread I have been periodically reporting on my experiences with 1997 Cabs.  (The last couple were very good.)  I am now down to the Insignia and a Dunn... • I am a life long wine enthusiast with a preference for Bordeaux, particularly if consumed at maturity. I do enjoy wines from other parts of the world but find I like the ones that have a claret style best.
