It has been more than hundred years since California wine pioneer Jean Laurent quarried stone from the base of Glass Mountain in Napa Valley to build his wine cellar. That cellar stands today and serves as both a literal and figurative link to the past and Laurent's guiding principles of quality and values. In 1978, Bruce Markham, a California businessman with a passion for wine, purchased the old winery and launched Markham Vineyards, the parent of Glass Mountain Wines. From the beginning, Bruce Markham's vision was to make quality wines, while contributing to the preservation and growth of the wine industry. As a result, The Markham Winery has developed a reputation of high regard as a producer of world-class wines. Commitment to producing exceptional wines has earned Markham the cover of Wine Spectator magazine and a steady stream of accolades from the press. – Description from JasminaDragoljevic

  • A few days ago I participated in a tasting/pairing event that featured white wines. One of the wines was Chablis, and, while discussing this one, the facilitator stated that it was fermented in steel and had never seen oak.  I asked if that was common for the region and he responded that it was absolutely the case, and was so for all white wines... It's a piece Jim Harrison wrote for them nearly a decade ago on wine's significance in his life, and there are several specific examples of food and wine matching.Harrison died recently and I mourned him as another of the greats who have passed this decade. • A tasty Zinfandel is always welcome in our house.  We recently enjoyed a 2012 Repris Zinfandel from their Moon Mountain Vineyard.Tonight was quite a pleasurable experience.  First we dined at a new (to us) restaurant in the district called Scion.  It was decent but nothing to write home about (good enough to write in the forum though); I tried a... • After many articles discussing customer dissatisfaction, Premier Cru, a very upscale wine store in Berkeley, filed for bankruptcy this week.  There have been concerns for J J Buckley's laggardly behavior in delivering wines on the WB and Wine Spectator forums, but so far they've made good on everything of mine save for three bottles of Hermitage... • Ok, new year and time for a new topic of discussion.  Just yesterday I opened this Pinot Noir from California that initially sounded promising.  First  - it was given to Sandra as a retirement gift so it was free.  Second - a Pinot Noir bottled in St. Helena CA, so it has to be decent, right? and Third - a nice looking label.  Well, this 2014 Me... • Château Morrisette Chardonnay Blend Sweet Mountain Laurel NV

    Snoothrank:

I just uncorked my first bottle by this winery and had a glass of this Sweet Mountain Laurel variety with my late lunch of crackers, brie, and fig preserves. This winery is not many miles from my home here in the hills of the Blue Ridge and what a delightful neighbor to have! I just love it (and that's saying a LOT). This reminds me of my favo...
