Bonded Winery #9 has 635 planted vineyard acres and the property is the ninth largest planted acreage in Napa County. The Company is committed to growing grapes without the use of chemicals. Certified by the California Certified Organic Farmers, Bonded Winery #9 uses organic vineyard management techniques. Selective leaf and shoot removal reduces fungus and mildew pressure. Cover crops like oats, peas, mustard and vetch, are planted between rows to naturally inhibit soil erosion, reduce dust, restore nutrients and encourage microbiological activity. Even grape skins and stems are composted after harvest and added back to the soil, replenishing nitrogen and potassium and increasing microbiological activity. The 635 vineyard acres are divided between Oakville (35%) and Yountville (65%), two distinguished appellations within Napa Valley. Within the vineyards are several distinctive blocks, each having a specific name. These vineyard names began making their debuts on prestigious wine labels in the late Read more »

  • As I sit here trying to come to some conclusion it occurs to me that perhaps I am going about this all wrong. I amafter all a wine snob. Yes, it’s true, I am biased and I know it. I am first and foremost a red wine drinkerso when I think of the best regions my thoughts automatically run towards things like Nebbiolo and Piedmont, PinotNoir and Bu... Read More

Nice red currant with hints of black currant and possessing great structure to lay it down a while. Great oak and vanilla notes over red berry with hints of black fruit. Dry. Really good balance and nice flavor.92 pts.5/10/13 at NWC room Read More

  • After last week’s look at value-oriented Zinfandel, I was pretty excited to jump into and taste some higher end wines. I love Zinfandel’s many iterations. From the Claret styles of yore to the fruit bombs that have made bold headlines and big points over the past decade, there is a great variety of styles well suited to many cuisines. Of course,... Very nice. A bit acidic for the first 30 minutes. Smooth and subtle with hints of chocolate and berry expression. It opens well after 60 minutes and the acidity drops off a bit. A solid selction with a good fillet. Cheers! Read More

  • Ghost Block Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2008

Still a bit young, the nose exhibits strong fruits with elegant surroundings of herbs and spices and a few notes of chocolate. The palate is elegant but tight and acerbic for the first hour, opening to blackberry and cherry in the center at one hour, followed by chocolate and tobacco and a fuller expression of tannic structure at two hours. A beautiful wine ready to drink. The nose opens with cinnamon and an assortment of mild herbs and spices. Fruit and spice notes emerge in varying harmonies continually over an hour. The palate launches with strong fruit in the center, pleasant acidity along the edges and a long salivating finish that fills the entire palate with an array of ev... Read More
