Gerard Bertrand quickly developed a wine merchant business by selecting winemakers and estates that shared his sense of what was called for. In order to express his talent as a winemaker beyond his native appellation of the Corbières, he chose to invest in other wines of the Languedoc with strong potential. In 1994 he bought the Cigalus Vin de Pays d’Oc parcels, then three years later the 58 hectares of Château Laville-Bertrou in Minervois La Livinière. A forerunner in the Languedoc, Gerard Bertrand understood the evolution in consumer behavior towards expressive, well-balanced and elegant wines. By offering great wines at fair prices his success was immediate. The Prestige Wines of Gerard Bertrand quickly became the quality reference in the opinion of the professionals. In the footsteps of his father, Gerard has been contributing to the epic story of the Languedoc in these past years; he is the payee of the qualitative changes made to a good number of Languedoc terroirs and estates. • Gérard Bertrand Tautavel Grand Terroir 2011

    Snoothrank:

The reliable and good price-to-quality wines of Bertrand hit the mark again here: there is a lot of wild blueberry, service berry and sweet cherry on the nose due, no doubt to a good dose of Syrah and Mourvedre. The entry is dominated by more blueberry and cherry with a relatively smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Finish is manly (alcoholic) but satis... Read More

  • Gerard Bertrand Cremant de Limoux Brut Rose Cuvee Thomas Jefferson 2013

    Snoothrank:

I recently found this Cremant de Limoux for sale at my local supermarket. They ... They just started carrying Gerard Bertrand's wines, which none of the local wine/liquor stores carry. This sparkling wine is quite nice for the money, very dry, medium small bubbles, with a clean aftertaste. However, there are several other brands in this price ... Read More

  • Gerard Bertrand Languedoc 2011

    Snoothrank:

A bit of French earthiness...just enough to realize terrior. Deeper red color, staying power in the fridge day 2 but power reduced a bit...wondering if it would make it to day 3. Good enough not to find out. A bit dry on the finish...priced at Costco under $10. Recommend Read More

  • Gerard Bertrand Languedoc 2011

    Snoothrank:

Fairly mundane Grenache/syrah, even on the 2nd day. Medium amounts of dried plum and dried black cherry but this felt a bit flabby and one dimensional on the tongue. Light on tannins, low to medium acidity and a fairly short finish, about what I'd expect at this price point. Read More
