Gerard Bertrand quickly developed a wine merchant business by selecting winemakers and estates that shared his sense of what was called for. In order to express his talent as a winemaker beyond his native appellation of the Corbières, he chose to invest in other wines of the Languedoc with strong potential. In 1994 he bought the Cigalus Vin de Pays d’Oc parcels, then three years later the 58 hectares of Château Laville-Bertrou in Minervois La Livinière. A forerunner in the Languedoc, Gerard Bertrand understood the evolution in consumer behavior towards expressive, well-balanced and elegant wines. By offering great wines at fair prices his success was immediate. The Prestige Wines of Gerard Bertrand quickly became the quality reference in the opinion of the professionals. In the footsteps of his father, Gerard has been contributing to the epic story of the Languedoc in these past years; he is the payee of the qualitative changes made to a good number of Languedoc terroirs and estates. • Thanks for your reply Jonderry. Offcourse Gerard Bertrand is a wellknown winemaker from the Languedoc region. Especially I like his wines from the Tautavel and La Clape terroirs.Other producers especially near Perpignan that I can recommend are Chateau de Rey, Domaine de l'Arca and Domaine Benassis. • Gerard Bertrand Saint Chinian 2011

    Snoothrank:

With a tantalizing nose of raspberry and coffee which is quite pervasive, this wine promises and delivers well; there is a nicely balanced entry with less raspberry than plum and but a hint of acerbic tannin on the medium finish. With the grapes in the blend, this wine will keep for a few years but is ready for drinking now. Excellent value, as... Read More

  • Gerard Bertrand Biobon Merlot

    Snoothrank:

Quite light, easy, for a CDR. It has the berryness and murkyness you'd expect from a CDR, but is quite light and mellow. A bit short, a french table wine, I would say. Got a bottle for 6, which is pretty much what I would say it's worth. Read More

  • Gerard Bertrand Syrah-Carignan Minervois 2008

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a brooding dark color in the glass, and the nose is a pleasant combination of blackberry, cocoa powder and a hint of coffee. The taste is somewhat less fruity than I would have expected given the nose, but it was quite nice, with initial flavors of tart cherry and black currant, which gave way to some chalky earth and green herbs mi... • Gerard Bertrand Corbieres 2010

    Snoothrank:

The wine is richly colored with deep garnet hues, and the nose is a pleasant combination of ripe berries, and something of a "twang" to it, perhaps some tart fruit to counterbalance the jammy sweetness that is also present. The taste is very fruit forward, with lovely notes of blackberry, ripe plum and vanilla that is just offset with a bit of ... Read More
