Galleano Winery is located in Mira Loma’s Wineville area, and is still much the same as it was in 1927 when the Galleano family purchased the land. The winery is located at the southern fringe of the Cucamonga Valley, made famous for winegrowing by Secondo Guasti, who like Domenico came from northern Italy’s Piedmonte region. The name means foot of the mountains and would be appropriate to Cucamonga, an alluvial plain that sweeps down from the eastern reaches of the San Gabriel Mountains. – Description from JasminaDragoljevic

  • By "East of Los Angeles," I gather he means Cucamonga Valley.  We had a discussion of historic vineyards including Lopez and Galleano here on the Forum last winter. The article mentions the town of Rancho Cucamonga, and I suppose that RC is the nearest upwardly mobile suburb to the Lopez Vineyard.  I think, however, that the Lopez Vineyard, SE a... Snoothrank:

When I pulled the cork I was a bit surprised at how darkly it was stained at the bottom. On pouring I was surprised that the wine was not as dark as I expected. Color, notwithstanding, the proof is on the tongue. A very enjoyable and drinkable wine. Not terribly fruit forward, although there is certainly the blackberry hit that I get with a... Read More

    Snoothrank:

Much darker in the glass that the "standard" bottling that I had, last night. Very fruity nose with that same "sweet minty" aroma that I saw, last night. Quite full-bodied and fruity in the mouth--cherries, blackberries--with something of an effervescence at the tip of the tongue. Noticeable alcohol on the finish. US$19.75 at the winery in M... Snoothrank:

Light color in the glass. Very unusual nose--can definitely detect a "sweet" mint odor. In the mouth this is a medium-bodied wine with some berry fruit and some earthiness. Fair amount of tannic puckeriness at the tip and the edges of the tongue. Pretty easy to drink uncomplicated wine. US$6.95 at the winery in Mira Loma. Read More
