Gaia Estate was founded in 1994 by Leon Karatsalos (Agronomist, University of Thessaloniki) and Yiannis Paraskevopoulos (Agronomist, University of Thessaloniki, Ph.D of Oenology, University of Bordeaux II). "Thalassitis", a Santorini A.O.C. white wine, inaugurated the company's first appearance, and quickly won a place in the Greek wine market. The 9,800 numbered bottles of Thalassitis in 1994, rapidly rose to more than 100,000 in 1999, all the while maintaining its commitment to quality. The White Notios "the Southerner" was first launched in 1995, and was immediately accepted by the wine-loving public, due to the excellent value it represented. In 1996 Gaia Estate acquired a private vineyard in Koutsi region of Nemea, along with a perfectly equipped winery of a total capacity of 3.000hl. From this new winery immerged four very distinct wines, all from the same indigenous grape variety, the Agiorgitiko. • Argentina is a key player on the 21st century wine scene. Hands down, the country is known for making some of the best Malbec wine out there today. The Argentine interpretation of the French grape demonstrates a ripeness and robustness of black and blue fruits that is unequaled.  But what I want to make clear here is that when we talk about Arge... • Gaia Estate Assyrtiko Wild Ferment 2012

    Snoothrank:

Very interesting wine with a lot going on. At first the oak dominated on the nose so I was sure how I felt about it but after awhile the oak tames and you get a lot of mineral and citrus fruits. Very acidic, relatively long finish. Read More

  • Gaia Estate Phtinithe Nobilis Retsina

    Snoothrank:

A wonderfully balanced, hint of acidity and citric fruits on the palette, and very soft. The nose has a bit of flowers and an almost generic candle scent which is quite enticing! Great summer and seafood wine! Read More

  • Gaia Estate Agiorgitiko Nemea 14-18h 2009

    Snoothrank:

I first tried this at the fabulous Zaitinya in Washington, D.C. A friend and I stopped in for a late lunch on a sweltering day. This is a perfect summer wine. Tart, dry, very refreshing yet with a definite presence of red fruit. It went beautifully with stuffed grape leaves and a lamb kebab. A great value at the price, too! Read More

  • Gaia Estate Thalassitis Santorini Greece 2007

    Snoothrank:

Winemaker's notes: Spicy on the nose with pear fruit tones, salty minerals. In the mouth this is big, rich and polished with great depth of fruit and a zesty yet muscular texture that highlights the dried fruit notes of the mid-palate and the notes of white pepper and salt on the long finish. Wonderful balanced and complex this is a beautiful wi... Read More
