Gaetano D’Aquino is a brand of imported Italian wines based out of California. The label is named after the company’s founder, a Sicilian immigrant who went into the wine business once he moved to the states. Many of the wines have found their niche in supermarkets, particularly Trader Joes, and are often referred to by the nickname “Gaetano D.”

  • Gaetano d'Aquino Barolo 2006

Red fruit and wood on the nose. Undecanted it showed a little tartness, some smoke and a lot of french oak. An hour and a half in the glass some acidity developed along with a grippy tannic finish. Hoped this wine would improve on the second day but alas it got worse. Life is too short to drink crappy wine, down the sink it went. Read More

  • Gaetano d'Aquino Chianti Riserva 2007

$ for $, best Chianti I've ever bought - only $5 at Trader Joe's. Paired with dark chocolate (sea salt & almonds). An extremely drinkable wine - very easy to get lost in it. Deep, rich palate, fruity flavor, very mild finish. Little to no acidity, strawberry jam nose. A great drinking wine, I would definitely bring this out at a party. Read More

  • Gaetano d'Aquino Chianti Reserva 2006

Rustic ruby hue, aromas of dark stone fruits, tea and dried oranges; flavor notes of dried plums, cherries, orange rind and meat roast, with fine tannins integrated to a moderately long finish. Definitely open well before service to expose its personality. A good Chianti value. Read More

  • Gaetano d'Aquino Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie Venezie IGT 2010

Aroma of yeast culture, flowers, and pears. The mouth has broad acidity with a fruit core, which is pretty satisfying. The finish is fairly long and a little metallic. Read More
