Fritz Underground Winery is unlike any place you've ever visited. A visionary wonder built ahead of its time by namesake Mr. J Arthur Fritz in the late 1970's, this monumental Gaudi style masterpiece represents a viticultural passion for sustainability, quality, and tradition. Today, J's son Clayton runs the winery with the same dedication and enthusiasm to these core values. Built into the side of a picturesque hill atop the northernmost region of the famed Dry Creek Valley, the Fritz Winery operates with a modern sensibility for efficiency and awareness by utilizing the unique attributes of its subterranean design. Naturally cool temperatures, ideal for wine making and cellaring, are maintained without any use of expensive or carbon-heavy devices common to most modern wine production. What's more, as a three-tiered structure, we're able to further cut down on energy usage by capitalizing on the always plentiful presence of gravity. By harnessing gravity to move our juice from the crush pad down to the Read more »

  • Fritz Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2015

Funk aroma, sulfur, I assume, that seems to take longer than normal to fade. Quite fruitycherry, stone fruit. Could use some minerality or woodiness or something to beat down the fruit. Fairly mellow tannin. Reasonably good acid. Fruit imbalance prevents me from really liking this one. Read More

  • Fritz Chardonnay Russian River Valley 2012

Green apple and honey aromas are light and fresh with a bit of fresh cut mango and papaya. Full and round mouthfeel, a bit chunky and certainly pleasant, with peach pit, more mango, green apple, a bit of lemon meringue and a touch of cream on the long finish. Read More

What a lovely, medium-bodied cab with notes of red berries, raisins and a welcome hint of chocolate. Great balance with a nice, supple finish. Enjoyed with homemade meatloaf. Read More

  • Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

A bit of vanilla, chocolate and wood spice pop on the nose followed by lightly minty, sweetly herb touched notes of black olive and dried cherry with subtle earthy undertones. Really quite youthful in the mouth with a light medium full bodied feel that relies on supple tannins and well integrated acidity to support a core of fresh red fruit. The... Read More

  • Fritz Cellars Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Dry Creek 2008

This has a wonderfully brambly nose that might remind more of Zin than Cabernet at first but the fine herbal edge to the black currant and black cherry fruit pulls it back into Cab land. there are intriguing notes of camphor, almondy oak tobacco and a play-doh element here. Supple and juicy in the mouth with rich, fresh blackberry and black cher... Read More

  • Fritz Winery Pinot Noir Reserve Russian River Valley 2007

Cola and spice on the nose with a nice herbal/carob background note framing somewhat wild berry fruit. The fruit is multifaceted with hints of juniper, boysenberry, blueberry and cherry. Super smooth and supple in the mouth though this has nicely refreshing acidity. Really light and elegant in the mouth with taut black cherry flavors and gentle... Read More

  • Frtiz Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2006

Having generally good experience with other Russian River Pinot Noirs, I picked this one randomly off the Gelson's shelf on the way to a dinner party. I just could not arrive empty handed. What a pleasant surprise it was! It's a medium body, slight leaning towards dark fruit rather than cherry. Tannin that should insure it holds up in the bottle... Read More
