Bill Frick and Judith Gannon started FRICK Winery in 1976 with proceeds from the sale of their 1957 Chevy. They have since established beautiful hillside vineyards on slopes overlooking the Dry Creek Valley and have successfully produced scores of delicious, full bodied award winning wines. The focus is on a unique highland corner of Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley. Here, grapes from the syrah, viognier, grenache blanc cinsaut, grenache, counoise and merlot grapes mature to a rich ripe perfection. Most Frick wines are Dry Creek Valley Appellation; a carignane is also produced from 100 year old vines in Mendocino County. Standing in the quiet grounds at Frick Winery, you can look out over the beautiful Dry Creek Valley. Hawks, vultures, ducks and herons often soar overhead. The winery is hidden away on a dead end road and nature is not shy. Coyote, fox, deer, wild pig, turkey, porcupine and bobcats abound. • Ok, as far as something different, I have, IN THE PAST, really enjoyed Frick Winery's single varietal Cinsault.  I had it at Rhone Rangers several years ago, and again sooner.  Rarely do you find a single varietal Cinsault.  It was peppery and fantastic.  I will have to see if he's still making one, and maybe source a bottle.  OT, have you taste... • Thought I'd start a topic to see what "different" wines people are drinking. I've been on a hunt to find wines made from lesser known grapes or from unusual areas. Here's one of each. This is a rose made from Cinsault, not too unusual right? Well this is from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. Either they don't make very good wine in Lebanon or this bo... Read More

My 8/8, the groups 8/8 While some participant s in our tasting felt this wine as corked I did not sense any TCA on the nose, finding instead off-putting and assertive aromas of mint, liquid smoke, and harsh raw woodnotes. On the palate there was some fruit on entry, but the mid-palate as stripped and the finish non-existent lending credence to ... Read More

  • We're heading back to (my favorite wine region) Russian River the first weekend in October and are looking for advice on what to do and what to expect.  We've been to RRV several times but only during the off season.  Is there anything special we should do at this time of year, and conversely, is there anything we should avoid? Bill Frick is one of my favorite humans. WHY? because he is the nicest person you'll meet, will chat with you about wine on a very personal level. He also has made the best Cinsault I have had to date. He began as a child interested in wine! Amazing and telling. Taste Frick wines Read More
