Paul Sr. and Beba Frey grew up a few blocks apart in the gritty Brooklyn, New York of the 1930's and 40's. Paul relished his summer escapes to the Poconos Mountains, Pennsylvania. And Beba found bliss each summer on a Catskill Mountains dairy farm (see photo above). Each vowed to escape the city permanently. They later met and married in medical school. While their family grew, they longed for a life closer to nature and finally settled down in Northern California in the early 1960's on their ranch in Redwood Valley, Mendocino County. The 12 children grew up instilled with love and respect for the natural environment, and picked up gardening, farming, and agricultural skills, as their parents had dreamed. Paul Sr. and Beba rounded out their children’s education by schooling them in the sciences, history, literature, classical arts and music, as well as appreciation for world cuisines paired with wine. In the late 1960's, Paul and Beba and the older kids planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Gray Riesling Read more »

  • Frey Vineyards Natural White Organic 2006

Green apple flavor with a touch of sea salt, and a slightly bitter, woody undercurrent. The flavor holds up the next day - even tastes a little better. This was nice, and I liked it better than Frey's organic red table wine. Read More

  • Frey Vineyard Ltd. Petite Sirah Sonoma 2009

I really enjoy this wine. Very serviceable. Nice dryness. Nice tannins. Nice dark fruit, stone fruit, and mineral. Not very complex, but what it does have going on is nice. Also, I like that I'm not drinking a bunch of pesticides and toxic fertilizer residue.Beautiful dark color and nice body. I will buy this again and again. Read More

  • Frey Vineyards Natural Red Organic 2012

I like organic wines, and this was selling at a modest price ($11-12), so I grabbed it. It had a mild and surprisingly floral aroma. At first it was very enjoyable and fruity, with blackberry, blueberry, and fruit tart flavors. It was not at all sour and the tannin was light. I drink a lot of craft beers, and for some reason this reminded m... Read More
