Frei Brothers Reserve is a winery based in Sonoma, California. The grapes are sourced from vineyards throughout the region such as Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley and Dry Creek Valley. All aspects of cultivation and production are certified organic and sustainable. From the website:

*For every acre of land we plant in vineyards, we set aside one acre to be preserved as natural wildlife habitat.
*When we expanded our winery, we chose to transplant a row of 13 mature redwood trees rather than cut them down.
*We are focused on continuous improvement. For example, we capture and reuse rainwater. *Currently 80% of wastewater is reused.
*We are currently working to leave a lighter footprint through our packaging, so we are exploring new components that use less glass per bottle, recycled materials for our labels and shippers, and recyclable capsules.

  • While we all have a wine that represents this change of season that we are enjoying I would argue that no wines does it so completely as Sauvignon Blanc. No other white, save Chardonnay, is produced in so many places and at such compelling price points. The main difference between Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, to my mind, is that for the most ... • Frei Brothers Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley Reserve 2012

    Snoothrank:

A little candied on the nose, and ripe with peachy aromas layered over a base of softly floral framed citrus fruits and a hint of honeydew with a gentle suggestion of vanilla adding detail. Fairly large scaled in the mouth, and on the softer side of the spectrum, this does not lack for acid but does have a bit of a creamy feel in the mouth. The... Read More

  • Chardonnay, oh Chardonnay. You really don’t have to be any better, do you? Back in the day when I lead staff tastings in retail we had Chardonnay tastings some four times a year. It’s the only time people would call in sick in order to opt out of staff tastings. The wines, at all price points, vary so much in style and quality that you were sure... Read More

  • Frei Brothers Reserve Chardonnay 2011

    Snoothrank:

A bit subdued on the nose with a nice core of pineapple and lime zest fruit overlaid with spicy, sweet, slightly marshmallowy oak. A bit soft on entry, then this turns fairly firm in the mouth with a nice spine of acid lending freshness to apple and almost peachy fruit that is wrapped in caramel and creme brulee accents. theres a hint of creamin... • I started this article thinking of pitting Washington State Merlot, arguably the state's most successful varietal wine, against those from California, and to an extent that is what I have done, at multiple price points between $20 and $40. But this exercise turned into something a bit more interesting. It illuminated a few of the basic tenets of... Read More

  • Frei Brothers Reserve Merlot 2011

    Snoothrank:

Oak spice and violet floral tones frame a core of milk chocolate laced jammy blackberry fruit on the nose. Round and a bit simple in the mouth, this delivers a rich, smooth mouthful of slightly earthy, dusty blackberry fruit with some nuanced herbal black currant flavors emerging with air. In a fruit driven style, this does a fine job of offerin... Read More
