Born in May 1969, in one of the most beautiful wine growing regions in the world, Frédéric Magnien is a 5th generation wine producer from the Magnien family. While studying at the viticultural "Lycée" (high school) in Beaune, he was accustomed to helping his father in the vineyards and in the cellars. To gain experience with other wine producers, he participated in the 1986 wine harvest at Jean-Noël Gagnard’s estate in Chassagne-Montrachet. Eager to build his knowledge, he left to work abroad in 1992. He started with 4 months in California at Josh Jemsen's Calera estate, followed by 6 months in Australia with Garry Farr at the Bannockburn Vineyard estate. Returning in time for the 1993 harvest, he enrolled at the University of Dijon, where he graduated with his oenology diploma. In September 1995, he made one of the most important decisions of his life; he created a wine trade house under his own name: FREDERIC MAGNIEN. His objective is to distinguish the activities of a "wine producer" from that Read more »

  • Magnien Frederic Bourgogne Rose 2009

    Snoothrank:

Well-decanted bottle at 60 deg F. Elegant and quite light in the mouth, balanced and well-integrated, with no glycerin slickness, with a slightly sour kick at the end. Nose of flowers and in the mouth tasted of indistinct pinot fruit and earth but quite refreshing and light with a hint of oak at the end. Would be great with very light finger ... Read More

  • Maison Frédéric Magnien Côte de Nuits-Villages 'Croix Violette' Villages 2005

    Snoothrank:

Very well-balanced and integrated, has a background taste of red soda. Nose is round, focused, full of sweet spice and earth and cooling red-black fruit notes. Hint of vegetal. Decent acid and fruit on the attack that transitions to a wonderful top layer of red berry-cherry with plum underneath. Almost a red fruit soda taste as it transition... Read More
