Fratelli Brovia on Snooth

  • Brovia Barolo Villero 2010

    Snoothrank:

Big aromas hint at chocolate and red licorice over wild berry, almost boysenberry fruit, and coal, on the nose with hints of rosehips and flowers emerging with air. A gorgeous wine, almost supple, though packed with earthy, rosepetals, rhubarb, small wild strawberry fruit and red cherry fruit. Broad and full in the mouth though with excellent foc... Read More

  • Here’s an article that had a slim chance of being written. Pull together ... ... tannins. 91pts 1980 Fratelli Brovia Barolo Rocche Evolved on the nose and mineral scented with minty, spicy accents. In the mouth there is much the same with an over arching dirty barrel thing going on. By itself this would be fine to drink, though it is drying ou... Read More

Evolved on the nose and mineral scented with minty, spicy accents. In the mouth there is much the same with an over arching dirty barrel thing going on. By itself this would be fine to drink, though it is drying out and fraying at the edges. In tonights company it shows quite poorly, though most likely within expectations for the vintage. 84pts Read More

  • I have a good memory and as with most people it is particularly astute when recorded painful moments in one’s life. Take for example 1994, when I finally broke into my stash of benchmark 1982 Barolo. We’re talking Marcarini, and Cascina Francia, Monprivato and Vietti. There were six bottles in all, and I carefully decanted them before cooking di... Read More

  • Brovia Barolo Garblèt Sué 2001

    Snoothrank:

Dirty and oxidized on the nose with lots of seedy aromas. Carob, fennel, celery seed aromas. texturally this is clean and precise in the mouth though the wine has no life. Its dark and medicinal and long on the palate with oversteeped, meaty and even bready flavors. At least theres some power. 74pts Read More

  • Having just returned from visiting three dozen wineries in Piedmont I sit ready to start processing all that I’ve learned but to be honest I have come away from my annual visits distinctly confused. Perhaps it’s the vintage I’ve just tasted, 2009 in Barolo, a wildly inconsistent and unusual vintage to say the least. Then again perhaps it’s the p... Read More

  • Brovia Barolo Villero 2009

    Snoothrank:

Lots of dark fruit on the nose which offers up a nice blend of balsamic and rose notes. This is soft and broad in the mouth, with good acidity and modest tannins supporting simple red fruit framed with a hint of camphor.  This is wide open and easy to drink already with a clear fresh feel that turns a touch short on the finish. A rare miss from ... Read More
