Frank Family Vineyards

It’s no wonder that Rich Frank, one of Hollywood’s most creative, vibrant and ingenious players owns one of Napa Valley’s most unique wineries, Frank Family Vineyards. In the late 80s, Rich, a long-time Disney executive, couldn’t find the time to get away for long vacations. Soon he started coming to Napa on the weekends, realizing it was only a short plane flight away from Los Angeles. In 1990, he purchased a home in the eastern hills of Napa in Rutherford. Two years later, in 1992, Rich received a midnight phone call at his home in Los Angeles from his friend Koerner Rombauer, telling him that the Kornell Champagne Cellars on the site of historic Larkmead Winery was for sale and if there was ever a time to get into the wine business it was now. Rich wisely told Koerner to offer half the asking price, and less than 24 hours later, the two were co-owners of the Calistoga winery. In 2007, Rich Frank and Connie Frank purchased Koerner’s partnership share and assumed total Read more »

  • So far I’ve worked my way through a pretty impressive set of wines that would make for some splendid gifting. I’ve covered Cabernet, Pinot Noir, the wines of France and today I turn my attention towards Italy. Without a doubt my favorite wine producing country; Italy is home to more variety and styles of wine than anyplace else on the planet. As... Read More

  • Frank Family Vineyards Chardonnay Carneros 2012

    Snoothrank:

Spicy and cool on the nose with subtle nutty oak notes joining fresh citrus and golden apple fruit on the nose. Moderately large scaled in the mouth but at the same time nicely nervy with fine integrated acidity that is probably higher than one thinks though it is so nicely buffered by the fruit. A hint of creaminess develops with air, making th... Read More

  • Frank Family Vineyards Chardonnay Napa 2011

    Snoothrank:

Bright on the nose and a bit waxy with some banana aromas floating under the perfumey oak. Entering the mouth with strong lemon curd, melon and peach flavors in a soft, moderately creamy style that is broad in the mouth, this is silky and fairly rich, with lots of flavor but not overpowering weight. The midpalate shows a blip of tannin along wi... Read More

  • Frank Family Chardonnay Reserve Lewis Vineyard Carneros 2011

    Snoothrank:

Definite jump up in intensity on the nose over the base bottling here with rich aromas of and complexity, almond, peach, buttery croissant, peach pie and pecan pie. Rich in the mouth, and downright powerful in fact, theres lots of depth here to the rich suave fruit. Flavors lean towards the apricot end of the spectrum with framing notes of almo... Read More
