Francis Ford Coppola’s love for wine didn’t just sprout up overnight. His grandfather, Agostino Coppola, had a passion for wine back in the 1920s, when he used to make wine in the basement of his New York apartment. They weren’t sophisticated wines: they were just everyday wines that anyone could enjoy. Francis and Eleanor Coppola, Francis’ wife, attempted to continue this passion when they purchased their own vineyard in Rutherford, California in 1975 using the proceeds from The Godfather. This plot was a part of the historic Inglenook Winery, and it included the former home of Gustave Niebaum, member of the Culinary Institute of America’s Vintner’s Hall of Fame. After tireless effort by the whole family, the winery produced its first vintage in 1977 under the Niebaum-Coppola label.   • This is an ok zin. Not the best, not the worst. The thing I like best is the nose. Peppery with a little bit of clove and vanilla. Easy to drink, but not much on the mid-palate or finish. We bought this at the winery as it was only $10 a bottle. I like a little more heartiness to my zin's and will not be buying this again after our supply ...
