We are a small, family owned and operated winery located just off Highway 243 South in Mattawa Washington, which lies on the east side of the Columbia River twenty miles south of the Gorge Amphitheater. Our family actually began planting grapes twenty five years ago, starting with the varieties of Riesling and Gewuerztraminer. We currently have over forty acres in limited production, and another sixty acres that were planted Spring 2002 Once we reach peak production in three to four years, we will produce the varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Syrah, Riesling, Gewuerztraminer. In 2001, the year in which we premiered our first vintages in our own label, we bottled approximately 400 cases of the 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon and 500 cases of the 1999 Merlot. While the grapes used for these vintages were local Mattawa grapes, they were not from our vineyards. We are confident that as we move closer and closer toward using own grapes exclusively, the quality of our wines Read more »

  • Hi everybody I'm a small store owner at the edge of the rust belt, my customers rarely spend over $20 for a bottle, and I am looking to improve my selection a bit beyond what is here now. If you have a minute to help a guy out let me know what you think are the best wines that usually sell for $20 or less. Thanks ! Read More

  • I mentioned this a while ago, but didn't get around to the post.  We stayed from September to end of December at a condominium in a complex built in the '70s. They've renovated and rebuilt since then (there were several major lawsuits for construction defects--built on fill!), but the architecture and the vibe is still very of that period. Our u... • Had a great first full day here in south central California. Started off with a very good breakfast at the ForFriends B&B in Santa Ynez. Too early for any of the tasting rooms to be open so we headed down to Jalama beach for some salt air and scenery. Beautiful beach with some interesting campsites and about a half dozen surfers enjoying some mo... Read More

  • It's interesting that a few new topics have popped up recently (Experiencing Cabernet Franc for one) and that my wife Sandra just today handed me an article by Dave McIntyre she cut out of a Washington Post newspaper dated 25 March 2015.  I'm starting this new topic based on this article "The wine cost four digits.  And the taste?" regarding the... • We feel that if a geographic area has shown wine excellence throughout a long history, then even more sublime heights can be reached with the addition of a dose of passion and attention. Campania was the breadbasket of Ancient Rome. Fruits, nuts, grains, seafood, meats, olive oil – authors from Virgil to Pliny to Columella agreed that if those i... Read More

  • I think OT had a thread in Berserkers all about pictures of vines and vineyards...tried to find one on here but came up short. There was some talk of Limerick Lane (has a nice ring to it) on here recently, I believe Mark has some of the wines. Just now I noticed a nice picture of some Limerick Lane Vineyard rows posted to Facebook by Adam of Sid... Read More

  • Montalcino is a beautiful medieval hilltop village just 40 miles south of Siena, on the ancient roadway to Rome. It is dominated by a castle, called La Fortezza, which doubles as an enoteca and wine shop. La Fortezza offers most of the wines of the zone, plus older vintages, as well as honey, olive oil, jams and the like. It also offers a breath... Read More

  • I once, a few years back, almost pulled the trigger on a real estate purchase in the hills back behind the Big Sur coastline. Was reminiscing on that today, and wondered why I never hear about wine from that area. Is it because I'm so far away and out of touch and there actually are barrels and barrels of wine being made there, or because the cu... Read More
