We are a small, family owned and operated winery located just off Highway 243 South in Mattawa Washington, which lies on the east side of the Columbia River twenty miles south of the Gorge Amphitheater. Our family actually began planting grapes twenty five years ago, starting with the varieties of Riesling and Gewuerztraminer. We currently have over forty acres in limited production, and another sixty acres that were planted Spring 2002 Once we reach peak production in three to four years, we will produce the varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Syrah, Riesling, Gewuerztraminer. In 2001, the year in which we premiered our first vintages in our own label, we bottled approximately 400 cases of the 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon and 500 cases of the 1999 Merlot. While the grapes used for these vintages were local Mattawa grapes, they were not from our vineyards. We are confident that as we move closer and closer toward using own grapes exclusively, the quality of our wines Read more »

  • We feel that if a geographic area has shown wine excellence throughout a long history, then even more sublime heights can be reached with the addition of a dose of passion and attention. Campania was the breadbasket of Ancient Rome. Fruits, nuts, grains, seafood, meats, olive oil – authors from Virgil to Pliny to Columella agreed that if those i... Read More

  • I think OT had a thread in Berserkers all about pictures of vines and vineyards...tried to find one on here but came up short. There was some talk of Limerick Lane (has a nice ring to it) on here recently, I believe Mark has some of the wines. • Montalcino is a beautiful medieval hilltop village just 40 miles south of Siena, on the ancient roadway to Rome. It is dominated by a castle, called La Fortezza, which doubles as an enoteca and wine shop. La Fortezza offers most of the wines of the zone, plus older vintages, as well as honey, olive oil, jams and the like. It also offers a breath... Read More

  • I once, a few years back, almost pulled the trigger on a real estate purchase in the hills back behind the Big Sur coastline. Was reminiscing on that today, and wondered why I never hear about wine from that area. Is it because I'm so far away and out of touch and there actually are barrels and barrels of wine being made there, or because the cu... Read More

  • Mt. Etna is located in northeastern Sicily in the province of Catania. Viticulture on the lower slopes of Mt. Etna dates back millennia. We live, however, in an age where we want to know what you have done for me lately. That’s good news for Etna’s DOC wines. Winemaking on Europe’s most active volcano is hot, both literally and figuratively. Etn... Read More

  • After much agony and discernment, I have chosen the official wine for my Super Bowl party this year. Over the 9 years I've hosted this event, it is probably the least exotic selection, not to mention least expensive.  Given the fact chili is the main dish (oh please, don't turn your nose. After all, we're American pigskin fans, not Bolsheviks), ... Read More
