  Light with high acid. Vegetal and grainy with lots of cherries.

  Snoothrank:

  Nose is a bit hot. Nice dried cherry aroma. Cherry immediately attacks your mouth, but this is a smooth wine. Chalky tannin and a very short finish.

  Red berries, definitely smell the age on this one, some leather. Very smooth taste with some red berries. Probably my favorite of the night

  Snoothrank:

  Nice, extremely mellow wine, thats still rich in intensity and fruit, but exhibits great balance. Fruits of bing cherries leading to an acidic finish, thats followed by mellow tannins and then plums. Integrated tannins throughout and a lasting finish with some diesel notes.

  Snoothrank:

  Extremely mellow, cherry nose. Nice, chalky, but still bright and smoothly acidic cherry and red currant flavors. Hints of spice and a long, warm finish.

  So we at Snooth central celebrated our recent move to great digs with a little ... vs. the 1997 Felsina Fontalloro. Read moreSo we at Snooth central celebrated our recent move to great digs with a little ... vs. the 1997 Felsina Fontalloro. While the Fontalloro was a pretty wine it paled in comparison to the deep, mineraly, floral wonder that is 1997 Flaccianello. I'll go out on a ledge here and declare the Flacc my wine of the vintage for Tuscany! http://www.snooth.com/wine/fattoria-di-felsina-berardenga-fontalloro-toscana-igt-1997/ http://www.snooth.com/wine/fontodi-flaccianello-della-pieve-1997/ Next up were a pair of 1996 Barolo, the Luigi Pira Marenca and the Oddero Vigna Rionda. The Pira is a much more approachable wine but one that still spoke authoritatively of its Serralungan origins with it's deep licorice and medicinal tones. The Oddero on the other hand spoke about it's soil full of mineral and sandstone notes it was awesome and with the softer fruit tannins it has a sense of balance that the Pira can't match. The Grgich hills is a screaming fruit bomb if that's your thing but the Dry Creek Vineyard Endeavor on the other hand, while big and rich, is complex and layered with alot of interest already but excellent potential for positive improvement in the cellar. Read moreFull of roasted strawberry notes on the nose with a soft, sweet floral note and hints of tar, light earth, and fading spices adding complexity. In the mouth this is polished and plush with modest intensity of cranberry and roasted strawberry fruit. The tannins are nice and crisp and poke out a bit on the long finish which shows incipient notes of tobacco and bitter greens. A touch soft and diffuse but still showing well. 90pts    (hide)
