As nursery owners in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Walt and Joan Flowers had long dreamed of combining their love of wine with their passion for agriculture. They knew they wanted to produce their favorite varietals, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; what they didn't know was that their path would eventually lead them across country to Northern California's rugged Sonoma Coast. After responding to a small classified ad in a national wine publication, that's exactly where they landed. In 1989, after many information-gathering trips to Napa and Sonoma, Walt and Joan purchased 321 acres, including a ridge top, high above the Pacific Ocean on the northern Sonoma Coast. With the same determination they drew on to build their successful nursery business; the Flowers proceeded with the dream of producing their favorite cool-climate varietals in a place they believed uniquely suited to growing them. Today, Flowers Winery produces 15,000 cases of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from its two estate properties, Camp Meeting Read more »

  • Flowers Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2003

    Snoothrank:

Kistler PN is probably very good. I typically do not pay more than $20-$25 for a bottle of wine. There are many Pinot Noirs that are very over priced and the market will eventually sort them out. The trick is finding the good PN under $20. The best I have found is La Crema. Read More

  • Volpaia: it takes a village, no seriously. The Castello di Volpaia estate is one of the most remarkable wineries I have ever visited. Now, granted I was there in the off-season, but driving up the rather winding road to the hilltop enclave, it’s really not much more than a ring of buildings protecting the inner Castello, can leave you a little p... • Rodney Strong Russ River Pinot Noir 2007

    Snoothrank:

This PN from RRValley is simply delicious (Sept, 2009). The RStrong PN always reminds me of lighter-style fine French burgundies, and this one in particular seals the deal. It was pure velvet and silk on the tongue, with a nice nose reminiscent of flowers and somewhat earthy too. As it aired, these virtues became even more apparent. No evide... Read More
