A decade after the first release from his Quintessa estate, Agustin Huneeus felt the thrill and excitement of a new endeavor beckon. The underlying premise for all of the wines he has ever produced has been that great wines must be a reflection of a great vineyard. Faust is not. Instead, Faust is a tribute to Napa Valley’s noblest grape—full-bodied, decadently rich and unctuous Cabernet Sauvignon. Faust also honors the legend of Dr. Faust, a scholar and respected man of society who was tempted by the Devil to seek new renewed passion and youth in exchange for his soul. Faust is indeed the fruit of renewed passion for Agustin, though Mephistopheles has not yet appeared to claim his soul. To capture the complexity and diversity of the Napa Valley, Agustin takes bold and beautiful fruit from Quintessa that doesn’t fit his famous meritage blend’s elegant and finessed profile, and complements it with fruit from his vineyard in Napa’s up and coming Coombsville region and small lots of grapes that come form some of the valley’s best mountain and valley vineyards, from St. Helena to Yountville.

Faust on Snooth

  • RBA - I had a Faust about a year ago and thought it was very good for the $$$. I'm certainly going to have another one in the future. This was the first and cheapest Bedrock of 4 that I've tasted that I really liked the others while young were just ok. We have about 20 bottles that I'm going to allow for some aging before trying again. These Old ... Read More

  • RBA-How was the Faust? I beleive that's a second label for Quintessa. Yesterday we had a 2013 Bedrock Ole Zin! This is our kind of Zin (NOT a fruit bomb) Nice black cherry on entry with medium body, strong peppery mid-palate and lasting through the long finish. Seems like the peppery flavors keep the fruit in check. Tannins were smooth. Very good.  Read More

  • MJ - The Faust was wonderful.  I would buy that one again and it was one of two recommended by the sommelier.  You folks in the forum sure do like the Bedrock wines.  I've had a few and I do agree they are tasty.  I just don't see them out here for sale in wine shops. Read More

  • "Oh, I found that Faust cab that we had at Morton's Steakhouse on the weekend.  It was only $42.99 at Total Wine.  We paid $110 at Morton's.  At least it's not a 300% markup - closer to 250%.  :-)"Total Wine can be pricey, and certainly not where Morton's is sourcing it. You should start using Wine Searcher. Note other merchants under $40. Sound... Read More

  • We enjoyed Saturday evening with our friends Greg and Beth.  I was our ... list - the 2011 Faust Cabernet Sauvignon.  This was a decent wine but it could have used a few more years to age.  We enjoyed it with our steaks and I even had a Grappa to finish off the meal. You might notice some high prices on the few portions of the wine list that I ... • Faust Martinsthaler Wildsau Riesling Kabinett Rheingau Germany 2008

    Snoothrank:

Impressive right out of the gate! Perfect acid balance; beautiful nose of petrol, resin, honey and some floral notes. Sappy with lots of extract. Starts to fall apart with much air so it will not age more than another year. A great vintage and this wine reflects that. My rating 91-92 Read More
