  • Twentieth generation heir to Fattoria dei Barbi, Stefano Columbini, sat down with Gregory Dal Piaz to taste through a line-up of the former’s elite and accessible Tuscan wines.  Fattoria is an Italian word for farm. The word is often used as a winery term.  The Italian root of fattoria is the verb fare, which means to make;  to fashion;  to crea... Read More

  • Fattoria Dei Barbi Brunello di Montalcino 2008

    Snoothrank:

Nice maroon color that might tilt towards brownish tinge. Kind of a musty nosedried fruit. Raisiny, dried fruit characteristic on the tongue that I normally get from Nebbiolos. Fairly full-bodied and quite round. Very mild tannin and very mild acid. Read More

  • Hey, I hear that VTs are coming back, with one scheduled for March!  Not to steal the thunder, so I won't leak what the region/grape is going to be (regulars, watch your mail boxes if you live in the US), but it's going to be good if my inbox is any indication.I'm opening up the floor to ask the question, "Who do you think will be the host?"  Ma... • Early in my exploration of wine, I settled on Brunello Di Montalcino as ... (+?) years.  1999 Fattoria Poggio di Sotto Brunello Di Montalcino  The nose shows dried herbs, aromatic sandalwood, lavender, tea, and grilled meats, all enveloped in a dusty warm cherry aroma. There is a soft texture and richness to the nose. On the palate there’s roa... Read More

  • Selvapiana Vin Santo di Rufina 2006
