Fabre Montmayou is a winery founded by Hervé Joyeaux Fabre in the 1990s in Lujan de Cuyo, Argentina. Having grown up around the wine business in Bordeaux, France he came to Mendoza, searching for new winemaking possibilities. He purchased a historic Malbec vineyard, planted in 1908, and cultivated wine from the old vines. His visionary ideas have succeeded in creating excellent wines with concentrated, character. From there, other old vine vineyards were purchased to continue this pursuit for wines with unique personality. Fabre Montmayou produces Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Torrontes in young and reserva styles.

  • Viña Ruiz Malbec 2013

Malbecs used to be a great deal, but that has begun to change as their prices have doubled in the last 2-3 years. This is a pretty good one, and worth the elevated price. Robust, dry, smoky, and complex, with hints of iron and sherry. Read More

  • Fabre Montmayou Merlot Reserva 2009

A deep crimson merlot from 30-year old vines that cuts to the chase, with a powerful and concentrated stream of prune and the faintest touch of mango. Its too hot to be very complex or refined, but certainly worth drinking. A good choice for a salt-crusted steak. (AV 88, http://argovino.com/?p=1244) Read More

  • Fabre Montmayou Malbec Mendoza Gran Reserva 2009

What if the best malbecs from Mendoza were actually made in Bordeaux, perhaps Fronsac? Putting aside malbecs roots in Cahors, youd probably end up with something like this: direct, refined, with a modicum of sweetness, perhaps a little extra tannin, but overall very elegant. Smooth notes of dark plum and perfectly delicate and subtle overall, ex... Read More

Floral nose of violet and lavender along with soft berry fruit. Very fragrant aromatics. Red and purple fruit. Ripe flavors and very purple. Plum and dark berry with cassis and hints of leather and light smoke. Floral and pretty. Nice wine!91 pts.4/20/13 Read More

  • I tried the Malbec a few years ago while dinning in Buenos Aires. I had asked the owner to recomend a bottle from a rather extensive wine list. Whitout hesitation recomended the F-M, and since I had continue to enjoy this wines enourmously. Find them very clean, robust, and for me very well balanced. An easy choice, pairs extremenly well with be...
