Situated in the north of New Zealand’s picturesque Hawkes Bay, at Bay View is The Esk Valley Estate winery. The winery sources fruit from Hawkes Bay, including the world-renowned Gimblett Gravels and Marlborough, as both regions consistently produce grapes of an extremely high quality. Esk Valley is famous for its premium wine "The Terraces", which is only released those years when the terraced vines on the banks above the winery, produce an exceptional vintage Esk Valley is a boutique winery, but it is unique in that many of the techniques used to craft its award-winning wines are dictated by the winery itself. The old concrete vats, the layout of the buildings, and the absence of modern technology mean the people at Esk Valley have had to make wine in a simple, honest, hands-on way. The people at Esk Valley are as important to the wine-making process as the vines and the high quality grapes they produce. The main pre-requisite for working at Esk Valley is a genuine passion and excitement for wine Read more »

  • Judges awarded 112 gold medals to New Zealand wines at the 2012 Air New Zealand Wine Awards (ANZWA). In a statement released by ANZWA early this morning, Chair of Judges and Master of Wine Michael Brajkovich lauded, in particular, this year's pinot noirs, which scored big at this year's awards with 27 gold medals. “These wines are ripe and conce... • Esk Valley Merlot-Cabernet-Malbec 'Reserve' 2004

Nine years have made this excellent blend outstanding. It still has those exotic dark chocolate (think Lindt 85%) and raisin Christmas-pudding qualities, but the tannins are butter-soft now and the acid is still high giving an overall impression of freshness. The merlot has really come to the fore with intense plumminess. A wonderful example of ... Read More

  • Esk Valley Reserve Hawkes Bay Chardonnay Blanc 2009

Cool and crisp on the nose with a touch of fresh grass over smoked almond base notes and sour lime fruit. This appears to be very restrained on the nose yet aromatic at the same time. On entry this is cool, low in the mouth and a bit soft. The wine shows rounded edges and a simple expression of fruit, with nice interplay of restrained wood treat... Read More

I should probably rephrase that. If you enjoy a leaner, crisper style of Chardonnay that manages to be ripe yet firm with vivid clarity, then it’s time f... Read More
