In 1998, after two years in searching for a site that could be developed into a premium, world class vineyard, the goal was finally achieved. This site possesses the attributes for a unique terroir with features of steep slopes at high elevations of 1100 to 1550 feet above sea level with very rocky volcanic soils. The vineyard has a unique microclimate next to Atlas Peak.It is above the morning fog which allows abundant sunshine throughout the day to ripen the grapes fully. Cooling westerly breezes come over the mountainridge midday and in the late afternoon the mountainridge shades the hot afternoon sun. The vineyard was developed into 14 blocks with a total of 20 acres planted. Each block has varying row direction and slope and therefore each block is harvested separately for optimum ripeness. Tight vineyard spacing was used to give the vines more competition to improve grape quality. Rootstock and varietal recommendations from Paul Skinner, PhD, matched the soil to the rootstock to keep vigor low Read more »

  • Erba Mountainside Vineyards Merlot Atlas Peak 2004

    Snoothrank:

Amazing! Maybe the best Merlot I've ever had the pleasure of drinking. Full bodied with layers of structured fruit. A wonderful nose and a deep dark color. The wine almost bleeds in the glass....you can clearly see the legs on this wine even while it on the table and in he glass. This drinks like a $50-75 Merlot easily! Just a beautiful Merlo... • Erba Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

    Snoothrank:

Surprise! Didn't expect to enjoy this cabernet as much as I did. Clearly a "mountain style" in that it's leaner than some overblown, super-ripe napa cabs, but don't let that put you off. For a 6 year old wine it's clearly in its youth with firm, silky tannins paired with a dark, cassis flavor. Reminds me of classic cabs from the 70's and 80's wi... Read More

For a cab, this is really earthy, dark underlying flavors of moss and foliage. Dark berries and currant round it out well. Read More

  • Erba Mountainside Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2003

    Snoothrank:

Take your time to enjoy this, Paul Erba's wines are modestly restrained at first, but, once decanted there's no way to escape the breadth of quality he and Kristof Anderson have managed to get in the bottle. Opulence, power, richness of Cabernet all couple with this exotic thread that radiates from the volcanic soils of Atlas Peak. Undeniably,... Read More
