Erath wines are an expression of the land that the winery has cultivated for more than 40 years, longer than any other winery in the Dundee Hills of Oregon. The red, iron-rich Jory soils, combined with gentle breezes and warming sunshine of a marine climate, have bestowed upon Dundee a terroir of note. It has given rise to the handcrafting phenomenon, and the art of Pinot. As one of Oregon’s wine pioneers, Dick Erath had always been as tenacious in his approach to Pinot as the Pinot grape is stubborn. The engineer-turned-viticulturist was first inspired to pursue winemaking in 1965 after an early garage experiment. After completing coursework at UC-Davis in 1968, Erath relocated his family from California to the untamed red hills of Dundee. An unheated logger’s cabin on 49 acres would serve as home – and ad hoc winery – for several years. The following spring, he planted the Dundee Hill’s first wine grapes – 23 varieties. Pinot Noir flourished. By 1972, Erath had Read more »

  • Erath Pinot Noir Oregon 2011

    Snoothrank:

The wine is light in color, and somewhat translucent, like many of the quality Pinot Noirs from the Willamette Valley of Oregon. The nose has some lovely fruit, blackberry and strawberry, with some lovely earthy notes, cedar and sagebrush, just like you might smell if you were walking through the valley. The taste is very pleasant, with berrie... Read More

  • Erath Pinot Noir Oregon 2010

    Snoothrank:

This 2010 Pinot Noir from Oregon is very good. Deep crimson color with a mid to tight rim variation. Fruit notes of plum, black cherries and plum with a hint of vanilla and toasted oak. It has a long finish on the palette with balanced acidity. This wine will mature nicely over time (peak 2015-2018). Best served chilled to 60 degrees, and served... Read More

  • Erath Pinot Noir Oregon 2010

    Snoothrank:

A beautiful floral nose, intriguing scents in the back are quite enticing. The perfect blend to lead your first sip. Perfect light and floral taste on the front (much like the nose) with a gradual transition to the back of the tongue with light tannins and a smooth spice on the finish. You hardly notice the alcohol as it blends so smoothly i... Read More

  • After a quick tour of the winery, we settled in at the bar and sampled a couple of Remy’s fantastic single vineyard Italian varietal wines: The 2009 Illahe Vineyard Oregon Lagrein and the 2009 Rosebud Vineyard Washington Barbera. The Lagrein was a super dark and inky red color in the glass with a glowing halo of bright ruby red. Vibrant aromas o... Read More
