As one of Northern California’s wine pioneers, the Guglielmo (Gool-yell-mo) family has been producing wines in the Santa Clara Valley since 1925 - continuing a winemaking craft passed down for generations in Italy. Born in 1883 near Asti in Italy’s Piedmonte region, family patriarch, Emilio Guglielmo, left his homeland when he was 25 years old and traveled to America. Arriving in New York City in 1908, Emilio held a variety of jobs while working his way west - finally arriving in San Francisco in 1910. After sending for his Piedmonte sweetheart, Emilia, the couple married and soon began producing wine for their friends and neighbors in the basement of their Excelsior District home. Knowing the era of prohibition would soon come to an end, Emilio and Emilia invested in the future by purchasing vineyard land in the agriculturally rich Santa Clara Valley near Morgan Hill, about 80 miles south of San Francisco. In 1925, the couple founded the Emilio Guglielmo Winery. Speaking both Italian and French, Read more »

  • Guglielmo Zinfandel Santa Clara Valley Private Reserve 2007

    Snoothrank:

Very light on the nose and crisply red fruited, with notes of cranberry and red cherry dusted with white pepper, minerals, and a light vanilla top note. Smooth and slightly viscous in the mouth with a very easygoing character. This has some nice complexity with a slight edge of oxidation adding some nice development to the slightly minty red fru... • Emilio Guglielmo Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Bottled 1991

    Snoothrank:

This smells shallow and weird with notes of melon and cherry contrasted by lots of mushroom and forest floor aromas. In the mouth this opens with rather sweet and pleasant fruit but then quickly turns dirty, hard and lean with searing acidity on the finish.
