Educated Guess is a value-priced wine brand created by the Roots Run Deep Winery in Napa Valley, California. The name signifies the various conclusions to be made regarding wine on all fronts. From the winemaking side, decisions must be made about where to grow, what to grow, how to grow it, aging techniques, pricing, packaging, etc. They also considered decisions made by consumers in wine stores and how their personal knowledge plays into that, such as selecting the right wine to match specific foods, knowing which wine presents the most value for the money, knowing a particular grape, region, brand or producer from experience, or even just connecting with a label design. But if you’re unsure what to do in a particular situation, sometimes you just have to go with environmental clues and make an educated guess.

  • Grass is the way to go. I bought my house in Brooklyn precisely because it was only a few blocks from the park. Then I'd go there and see people running on cement. WTF? And worse, it became fashionable for a while to run barefoot. That's supposed to be more "natural" for the human foot. I guess the foot evolved to walk for miles across the natur... Read More

  • July 5th. We’re halfway through 2013 and what has changed? What have we learned? Not terribly much most likely. One thing I have learned is that when someone writes that someone else has “Nailed It!” we’re probably wasting time talking about the same old crap. The validity of the 100 point scale. The effectiveness of social media.Or even better: H... Read More

  • Hi guys:I was at a local wine and liquor store today; I buy quite a bit of stuff from them but don't really know any of the staff. It was quite warm and I was out running errands. I decided to stop by and pick up a few bottles of inexpensive wine (sub $15) that I can use in part for cooking.I guess maybe my hand was a little sweaty or something ... Read More

  • Not only is Cabernet Sauvignon the most popular red wine, it’s also one ... ... only guessing here, an educated guess if you’ll allow it. • Hi, I am an accidental wine enthusiast. As part of a major remodeling project including our family room I revived my interest and enjoyment of wine. Our family room was redone using dark hickory planking and the room has a short wall next to our fireplace. This wall has always presented a challenge to make use of the space. I researched and sear... Read More

  • A few things....First, OT, the wine I got was a 2012, not a 2008 as listed in ... in the OP.Secondly, for all educated guessers out there, FYI- snooth forum keyword searches are flawed to some degree.  They come up in some random fashion that I don't understand- dates of posts are all over the place, and relevance is not a factor.  So guess ca... • I am simply suprised! I am very impressed with how well this wine pairs with a fairly wide variety of foods. The percentages of grape type and blending is very smooth. This wine is also very stable. wheather aired or directly poured it remained smooth. Opened and decanted was my best experience. Bravo!!
