The first row of vines were barely in the ground when the neighbors began lining up to lean on their shovels and scoff. Grapes in Anderson Valley? Nobody could make it work, they insisted. The naysayers grew so vocal that Dr. Donald Edmeades dragged some old redwood planks out from behind the barn, found some red paint, and christened his vineyard with a sign out on Highway 128: "Edmeades' Folly." – Description from Kursulla

  • Edmeades' Folly Blend 2012

    Snoothrank:

Juicy and full of blackberry, black cherry and baking spices on the nose with more red fruits like red currant and cherries poking through as the wine opens. Full and rich in the mouth, with dark black cherry flavors, hints of cocoa, well integrated oak and vanilla, and black cherry throughout. Acidity is good and supports the wine well but ther... • Last week, we looked at a group of ubiquitous white wines. All of these wines were under fifteen dollars. Some of them were under ten dollars. But what about the reds? Research bodies such as California Poytechnic University and the American Association of Wine Economics have reported data demonstrating a consumer preference for red wine over wh... Read More

  • When we talk about Zinfandel we often tend to focus on those most familiar to us. Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Valley, Amador County, and even Napa get their fair share of attention, though just as often we tend to gloss over some terrific wine producing regions. I’m sure that on the whole my coverage of Zinfandel this year will be equally lopsided ... Read More

  • Edmeades Mendocino Zinfandel 2011

    Snoothrank:

A little tight on the nose and only gently fruity with mineral and oak base notes under subtle herb and blackcurrant aromas. Tense and a little spicy up front with fine clarity on the palate. This exhibits good transparency and clarity in the mouth with slightly jammy by not terribly intense fruit. Nice length and focus on the finish which shows... Read More

  • Edmeades Zinfandel Shamrock Vineyard Mendocino 2011

    Snoothrank:

A little oaky and herbal one the nose with a black cherry blackberry profile that is pure and intense. Rich, chewy and fairly powerful in the mouth with lovely fruit that shows a gentle sweetness and a streak of vanilla that drives through the lively and long finish. This is perhaps a bit simple but very attractive in a lush way. 91pts Read More

  • Edmeades Winery Zinfandel Mendocino County Shamrock Vineyard 2010

    Snoothrank:

Fantastic Mendocino zin! A touch of vanilla on the nose, dark chocolate covered black cherries on the palate with just a hint of salinity and acidity to make your mouth water. This is full of dark fruits but not jammy or over drawn. Although this big red comes in at 16% abv, it's not hot, but well balanced and definitely a keeper. Read More
