Eaglepoint Ranch Winery is a partnership between sparkling-wine pioneer and chocolate-maker John Scharffenberger, and viticulturist Casey Hartlip. Using grapes grown exclusively from the Scharffenberger family's Eaglepoint Ranch, they have combined their efforts to produce some of California's finest red wines. John Scharffenberger's passion for farming and fine wines began at an early age. Always a student of nature and horticulture, he created his own major in bio-geography at UC Berkeley, with a minor in range management. Weekends were spent in the Napa and Sonoma wine country. After summer trips to Europe, he knew his future would be in grape growing. In 1973, he and his family purchased Eaglepoint Ranch, with the first plantings of Zinfandel coming in 1975.
