The Guigal domain was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the ancient village of Ampuis, home of the wines of the Côte-Rôtie. In these vineyards of over 2400 years old you can still see the small terraced walls characteristic of the Roman period. Etienne Guigal arrived in this region in 1923 at the age of 14. He made wine over 67 vintages and, at the beginning of his career, participated in the development of the Vidal-Fleury establishment. Despite his young age, Marcel Guigal took over from his father in 1961 when the latter was victim to a brutal illness rendering him blind. Marcel’s hard work and perseverance enabled the Guigals to buy out Vidal-Fleury in 1984, although the establishment retains its own identity and commercial autonomy. In 2000, the Guigals purchased the Jean-Louis GRIPPAT estate in Saint-Joseph and Hermitage as well as the Domaine de VALLOUIT in Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. • MY FIRST VISIT TO BERN'S STEAKHOUSE - Tampa (4/8/2017)Like any true wine geek when I was informed of a trade show in Tampa my first thought was "I'm making reservations at Bern's." I have friends who live in Tampa about 3 min from the restaurant so we hooked up for a fun three top. Rachel came recommended as a Somm so I requested her in advance.... Read More

  • E Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2013

    Snoothrank:

Spicy and concentrated black cherry and blackberry aromas. Soft and earthy in the mouth with a dry dusty palate and a bit of tar - muted fruit notes of cherry and blackberry and a black olive finish that's chewy with textured tannins and a creamy smoke on the tail. Read More

    Snoothrank:

Creamy lemon balm and spicy citrus zest aromas with ripe melon and a touch of peach. This is nicely thick and creamy on the palate, almost oily in texture with floral notes of peach, melon and buttery lemon sorbet towards the lightly oaked finish. Read More

  • We had the '06 Cotes du Rhone from Guigal at our wedding. It went really well with about 60% of the hors d'oeuvres and was enjoyed by folks who typically stick with the whites. Great backbone to it without being overly tanic.
