Dry Creek Vineyard

The history of Dry Creek Vineyard is a long and colorful one. Founded in 1972 by David S. Stare, Dry Creek Vineyard paved the way for a renaissance of winemaking and viticulture in the Dry Creek Valley. Before his arrival, the Dry Creek Valley was little more than a few family farms and prune orchards. It was Dave’s vision to start a Loire Valley inspired winery that reintroduced consumers to the wines of northern Sonoma County. Without a doubt, David Stare is a pioneer. Heading west in the late 1960s, Dave personified the character and work ethic of early Gold Rush pioneers. Educated at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Dave worked for the B&O Railroad for several years but quickly realized that his true calling was in the wine industry. Inspired by his trips to the Loire Valley, Dave headed west to California to start his own family winery. Upon his arrival, Dave began taking winemaking classes at UC Davis as a graduate student. On the weekends, he spent time looking at vineyard Read more »

  • We were lucky enough to attend the sold-out Project Zin fundraiser for the Downs Syndrome Association of the North Bay last night in Healdsburg, CA.  Clay Mauritson of Mauritson Family Wines/Rockpile Wines and Charlie Palmer of Dry Creek Kitchen (and about half a dozen other acclaimed restaurants) sponsor this event.  Between their respective ma... • So we have some interest in having a West Coast meet-up (or you can call it a throw-down) for Pinot.  Here's my opening proposal:  We'll do it very close to the Oakland Airport, to save those who are traveling in from out of town (like Emark and JonDerry) from having extra travel if they want to fly.  This would give LuchaVino a chance to attend... • Yes, yes and yes.  We were in healdsburg  a couple of years ago biking and really enjoyed it, but found out quickly that biking and wine tastings didn't mix especially on a hot day!  Did a lot of the biggies, korbel, chateau st jean, a couple out on dry creek, and stopped at a tasting bar in HB  - Hauck?  Trouble is, I have problems finding wine... • Dry Creek Vineyard Fumé Blanc Sonoma County 2010

    Snoothrank:

This new vintage harkens back to the early days of Fumé Blanc at Dry Creek Vineyard. At first swirl, pungent grassy aromas framed by kaffir limes leap from the glass. On the palate, the wine displays racy citrus characters along with granny smith apples, Meyer lemon and orange zest. The grassy elements repeat on the finish with acidity that is b... Read More

  • Hey N. Cal. guys, does anybody know anything about this winery -- Les Caves Roties de Pente. I picked up this Carignane on a provisioning expedition a month, or so, ago.  It is so unusual to see a varietal bottling of Carignane.  I could not pass it up.  I opened it up, last night and was very please--full bodied, earthiness that I seem to alway...
