Frank spent over 20 years operating a cutting edge specialty retail company in the South Bay area. During this "uphill climb" of building a thriving business, he spearheaded many concepts in the natural foods grocery business. Having sold this business, Frank is now enjoying the exhilaration of the "Downhill" ride - the fun part after all the hard work of climbing up the hill! Along with making delicious small batches of wine, Frank also consults in the specialty food industry as well as in the wine business. He is an active leader in the Slow Food movement, loves to cook and entertain, and is always ready for a party. Franks approach to winemaking involves developing close working relationships with his growers to ensure getting the very best choice of grapes. Once he has the best fruit he can get, his meticulous attention to detail coaxes the very best those grapes have to offer. Downhill Wines reflect the unique territory where they were born. He invites you to taste and see, and experience the joy Read more »

  • Hello all!Put together a nice little timeline of photo's from over the past several weeks in Sonoma County. I really do love Harvest time each year. Obviously in CA everyone is freaking out a little at the prospect of being fined, so I enjoy my new title of 'intern' for a couple of weeks to make sure safety is a must. http://www.britwit.co/britw... • Who else is still drinking the 1996 California cabs?  I had yet another bottle on Memorial Day and loved it.  Altamura '96 was lovely. Previously I've loved the 1996 BV GdLatour.  As we know, 1997 amazed people but has largely faded early. Two questions:1. Which of the 2000s vintages will age like the 96s have done so gracefully?2. Which 1996s i... Read More

  • Must admit I'm becoming a convert to this wine, I know it seems to get a lot of negative press having a reputation as a lowly ' Workhorse ' grape. but I enjoy the richness, tannins that grip you and the dense meaty flavours. I've recently had some very good ones, notably .........Paul Mas Estate Carignan Vieilles Vignes Savignac Vineyard 2010 Pa... • Outside of the pricey boutique wineries, who do you think consistently produces good wine year-after-year and represents good value? I'm thinking of the "larger" more established wine makers, who try and bring their A-game across the spectrum of their varietals. To me the sign of a good wine maker and overall brand is someone who you can trust ev...
