In 1997, the Claro Group from Chile decided to expand its wine business into Argentina to continue the group’s tradition of producing world-class wines. The conditions in Argentina’s Mendoza region contained the ideal and unique terroir which allow winemakers to fulfil their dreams of creating sophisticated and immaculately structured wines. The Claro Group’s first investment in the Argentine was to acquire the Ugarteche Estate. The estate encompassed approximately 140 hectares (346 acres) of old Malbec and Chardonnay vines, a requisite for producing a deep and balanced wine in the short term. The underlying conditions showed a remarkable potential for delivering fresh, aromatic wines with high acidity, which were perfectly suited for short-cycle varieties. • Dona Paula Estate Torrontes 2011

    Snoothrank:

Interesting torrontes from Argentina. Perfume on the nose, orange/tangerine paraffin (?) on the mid palate, medium to low acid and a short to medium finish. Quite an interesting white wine that may be a bit over the top for some. Read More

  • Dona Paula Estate Malbec 2011

    Snoothrank:

The wine itself has a deep purple color and nice clarity in the glass. The nose is classic Malbec, rich ripe red fruit, blackberries, cherries and plums, offset with distinct earthy tones of green grass, forest floor and some dusty granite. The taste is quite remarkable, with some dark fruit up front, followed by some lovely spice notes midpal... Read More

    Snoothrank:

I am so out of my depth with white wines I had to look up on Google what sort of grape this is, and I found that it's native to Argentina and typically displays some smooth mouthfeel and mild acidity with aromatics of peach and apricot. And sure enough, there are some lovely floral notes to this wine, and some earthy notes that just bring to m... Read More

Getting a lot of oregano and herbal notes on the nose which blends very nicely with the minerality and the fruit. Lots more fruit on the palate - stone and tropical fruits, well balanced with fresh acidity and a silky finish. Read More
