Dominus Estate is owned by Christian Moueix from Libourne, France. His goal, supported by the team at the winery, is to produce great wine representing the unique terroir of the Napanook vineyard. Our philosophy is very traditional—that is, in order to produce great wine we need the best possible grapes. Therefore, we concentrate our efforts in the vineyard. The vines are meticulously manicured—we believe in crop-thinning, "nettoyage," washing the grapes, and other labor-intensive activities. During each visit to California, Christian Moueix spends most of his time in the vineyard, not only because he loves it, but also to better understand the natural expression of the vintage. Following the maturation of the clusters allows us to harvest the grapes under the best conditions. When the fruit enters the cellar after harvest, it follows a natural process of fermentation with few interventions. Our approach is that of a minimalist's. Following fermentation, the wine is blended in a manner that expresses Read more »

  • I am a life long wine enthusiast with a preference for Bordeaux, particularly if consumed at maturity. I do enjoy wines from other parts of the world but find I like the ones that have a claret style best. I dislike CA/domestic  fruit bombs that seem so prevalent and popular in the U S.My bias toward Bordeaux was probably set when a friend of mi... Read More

  • OK, just had to spew my cajun dirty rice with Rosso di Montepulciano out my nose when I saw this price list from HDH. Several items here literally were my dailies last decade and the one before it (Caymus, Shafer, Far Niente, Blackbird, Araujo, Verite, Aubert, Hanzell, DuMol, even Dominus--the only ones not particuarly were the Bryant and the Ha... • Dominus Estate 2002

A real showy wine with intoxicating perfume on the nose. Plush mouth feel, delicate and finessed with good concentration of red fruits and currant. Has a lower intensity finish, with well resolved tannins, and there's decent acidity holding this together. In a good place right now. Very well balanced wine, bridging the gap between old and new Na... Read More
