The Michel family have been cultivating their passion for tradition and the Chablis terroir since 1850. The winery is situated right in the heart of the village, with the 25-hectare vineyard spread over the very first slopes that were discovered by Cistercian monks in the 11th century. 40 years ago, the family decided to stop making the wine in wooden barrels, preferring to create clean, pure and precise Chablis without adding artificial woody tastes. Through this philosophy, combined with the limited yields inspired by organic wine-growing techniques, the Domaine has developed a worldwide reputation for fine wine-making in stainless steel tanks. Today, the Domaine is managed by Jean-Loup Michel and his nephew, Guillaume Gicqueau-Michel, who is continuing the family tradition. – Description from dvoristanac

  • This is the second part in a three part series on wine prices over the past decade. Part one can be found here, and today I follow up with part two, a look at Tuscan wines and the wines of the Rhone Valley. I love Tuscan wines and I love Sangiovese. Pure, fresh, fruity and austere all at once, it’s one of the greatest food wines on the planet, a... Read More

  • Sadly I did Not. I had a busy weekend that involved wine, but sadly that was mostly inventorying, packing, and moving wine around the state of NY! Got about a dozen cases moved closer to home, so now I'm pretty well set for the next few months of drinking! Next bottle up looks like it might very well be 1987 Dunn Napa Valley. Funny how Dunn was ... Read More

  • Domaine Louis Michel Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir 1989

    Snoothrank:

A lovely golden colour with orange shades. The nose presents some honey, orange zest and pronounced farmyard aromas. On the palate, it has a suprising freshness and shows a good minerality. The structure is round and generous with creme brulee falvours. The acidity has disapeared with age, but I enjoy the overall balance of the wine. It was a ve... Read More

  • A friend and I decided to see wine country while it was just about harvest season, so there'd be grapes on the vines. She had been once before on a planned tour of about four places all in south Sonoma. We opted this time to rent a car and drive ourselves so we could hit the places we wanted to visit.I learned some valuable things, so if you'r... Read More
