In 1320, Pope Jean XXII had the first vines planted in CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE. But only in 1360 did the vine acquire a certain importance, first with the white wine drunk by Innocent VI, then with red wine; but these products remained little known. Only from the 18th century onward, did the vine occupy the territory and papal wine begin to be famous. In the Jaume family, the generations have perpetuated the profession of winegrower since Mathieu JAUME decided, in 1826, to grow vines in CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE. The successions were assumed by Marius, Fernand and Roger. In 1979, Alain and Odile JAUME carried on the family tradition with the creation of the GRAND VENEUR WINERY. At the beginning, the vineyard extended over 22 acres. Over time, the vineyard grew to today's figure of nearly 135 acres spread in the CHÂTEAUNEUF DU PAPE, LIRAC, CÔTES DU RHÔNE VILLAGES "Les Champauvins", and CÔTES DU RHÔNE areas. In 2003, a new estate of 35 acres was acquired: the "CLOS DE SIXTE" Appellation d'Origine Contr Read more »

  • Domaine Grand Veneur Clos Sixte Lirac 2010

    Snoothrank:

Here is a wine from the right side of the Rhone that is already ready to drink; yes, there is some residual tannin (Mourvedre, no doubt) but not to worry - the rich cherry-kirsch flavour will not diminish in any way for a few years at least. Good structure, balance and backbone: a truly delicious wine for drinking now through 2016. 89-91 points ... Read More

    Snoothrank:

This is tremendous and I think a great bargain for the money. I bought a couple bottles and drank them at different times with different foods. Then I went back and bought a case. This will be good for years to come. Decant and let breath at least a half hour. Read More

  • Domaine Grand Veneur Cotes du Rhone Reserve 2009

    Snoothrank:

You really have to love that Christmas pudding scent on many of these Cotes du Rhone wines. My weakness is an acute memory of childhood where cold nights around Christmas were redolent with candied cherries, cranberry sauce and phosphate-style hard candy. This very good CdR from Alain Jaume has this quality plus a slightly angular edge on entry ... Read More
