The 'domaine' saw the light of day thanks to Pierre and Mireille's zeal and two families coming together. Pierre Giraud is the son of a long line of winegrowers going back more than six centuries. Descendant of the Arrnenier family, he's always tended his vineyard with loving care. The Buou family owned the village distillery for generations; Mireille has always worked alongside her husband helping to expand the vineyard. Now she looks after the day-to-day running of the Domaine. The story begins in 1974 when Pierre and Mireille took on 4ha (10 acres) of vines as tenant farmers. For 12 years, the domaine would grow little by little through purchasing pieces of rented land. In 1981. Pierre and Mireille turned the family distillery into a winemaking and barrel-ageing cellar. • Hello:A bit of a long question, I apologize. I'm trying to train my palate and learn blind tasting by assembling groups of 100% varietal wines that are (supposedly) true representative.Right now I want to assemble a group of wines that will illustrate how to differentiate Argentine Malbec from Carmenere, and pick out similar wines. I don't even ... Read More

  • Cotes du Rhone le Grenaches de Sixte Domaine Giraud 2011

Left the remainder in the decanter for a day and found a totally different wine. Nice dark cherries, blueberries and blackberries, much softer tannins and very nice acidity. Read More

Decanted on the fly at the dinner table. Opened up nicely in the mouth but not on to the nose. Velvety smooth on the palate, light caramel, mildy tobacco with a dense plummy fruit simulating a newer port. Read More
