for sry828: are you a smoker? this seriously inhibits your ability to smell ... fat wine glass. if you don't have any, a rocks glass will do. just don't fill one of those tiny cheap applebee's wine glasses to the rim - wine needs air/space in order for you to detect its bouquet.... Read more

Just another point before this signing off: I have had some LBV as old as 30 years, but when you get beyond a certain age, waiting becomes an issue... :-)

You can quote whomever you like. To my nose, and from my education, you ... acid, ethyl acetate,etc. DO have smells. But you can't tell how acidic a wine is based solely on smell. Again, I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just don't want the newbs getting incorrect info

I'm all in favour of half bottles or the 50cl bottle. We use the gas ... it's been opened. I have just a glass left in the decanter from two days ago and it's smelling great. Can't wait to finish it off tonight.
