Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, located in Vosne-Romanée, is one of the most prestigious vineyard sites in Burgundy, France. The domaine boasts seven Grand Cru properties, and the two monopolies (meaning they are owned and operated by the domaine itself) La Romanée-Conti and La Tâche are considered the finest vineyards in all of Burgundy. The other five - Richebourg, Romanée-St-Vivant, Grands Ėchezaux, Ėchezaux and Montrachet  (which overlaps with Chassagne) - are also among the upper echelon. With the exception of the Chardonny-only Montrachet, Domaine de La Romanée-Conti is known for producing exceptional, rare reds from Pinot Noir, prized for their structured fruit, perfume and longevity.

The vineyard had already been named Romanée since the 13th century when it was first acquired by the de Croonembourg family. The hyphenation is derived from a 1760 bidding war between Madame de Pompadour, Louis XV and Louis François ler de Bourbon Read more »

  • In getting together with some LA and OC wine folks yesterday, I brought along this 1961 Oddero Barolo to the party that also featured a '66 Lafite, and a '66 Haut Brion, among others. I had sourced this Barolo just last week as something to throw at the pair of old 1st growth wolves, and spice things up. Sitting here this morning, I can easily c... Read More

  • Back in July, I proposed a West Coast Pinot Noir throwdown on the Snooth forums.  In what was a pot-luck twist on one of Gregory dal Piaz’s “Drink My Wine” events, I suggested that any Snooth forum posters could congregate in my neck of the woods—Oakland, California—and bring a bottle of their favorite Pinot Noir from whatever region they think ... • I am a dyed in the wool fan of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlots, Sangiovese's and a few Chardonnays and Pinot Grigio's. I am trying to widen my spectrum to include Pinot Noir's. I live in the Pacific Northwest so the Pinot Noir's are readily available due to the large varieties from Oregon. Before I embark on purchasing some different brands I would l... Read More
