Domaine de Chevalier is located in a clearing in the middle of a forest that protects the vines from extremes of temperature. In fact, Chevalier is a sort of secret garden, far from the limelight. This is something of a paradox for such an excellent wine, among the greatest in Bordeaux . Only a great terroir can produce a great wine... I often start out with these words when speaking about Domaine de Chevalier. They convey our fundamental philosophy, not only with regard to viticulture, but also the spirit that pervades the estate, and the men and women who work here. They improve their already considerable skills year after year on behalf of that which is most essential to a fine wine in my opinion — balance. – Description from dvoristanac

Domaine De Chevalier on Snooth

  • Domaine de Chevalier Rouge 91 2013

    Snoothrank:

The vintage was weak, and thus the intensity of the Cabernet Sauvignon backbone (so to speak) is not so prominent; but... there is an attractive - if light - nose of cassis and cedar bark, with a smooth, creamy texture upon entry. Attack is mild for the property, but fantastic for the vintage. Light, with some stem elements, but otherwise pure... Read More

  • A commune in the Cote d’Or, ten kilometers from Beaune, lies Puligny-Montrachet. The mere whisper of the name causes oenophiles to perk up. Why? This sleepy 400-inhabitant village is synonymous with the greatest white wines of the world.A storied appellation, Puligny-Montrachet was created in 1879, when Puligny received permission from the Frenc... • Clos des Lunes "Lune d'Argent" 2015

    Snoothrank:

Another great white from Domaine de Chevalier. Semillon dominant on the nose (that is, a muted, flat, scent of unripe peach on a light bed of cake spice). The entry is smooth, balanced and refreshing - though more dense and viscous than other Bordeaux Blanc in similar price ranges. Fresh and tasty. 89. Read More

  • Domaine de Chevalier Rouge 91 2013

    Snoothrank:

Domaine de Chevalier was reputed to be among the best picks of 2013 - a sub-par vintage - and it does reach to the skies; the scent is of rich, ripe cherries cut on a metal board, and the entry is similarly metallic and rich in red and black fruit with some cedar shank and oak tannin. Finish is long and indicates some aging potential - although ... Read More

  • I've long had a weak spot for those Graves blends, though I've probably had 10 Domaine de Chevalier to every one Haut Brion Blanc, price not being the only issue. I've told myself there must be some cultish factor surrounding Mount Mary to justify that price on release.Do you usually drink structured reds with such spicy dishes? I've had some lu... Read More

  • Except at the higher levels, JD. You can't call Haut Brion or Domaine de Chevalier or even Smith Haut Lafite (and too many others these days) cheap. I see no reason to shell out the tariff for Haut Brion Blanc, though the Chevalier still, yes. And I'd pay for Pavillon Blanc or Mouton or the relatively new whites from some other big chateau from ... Read More

  • Clos des Lunes Lune D Argent 2013

    Snoothrank:

The 2013 edition of Domaine de Chevalier's Clos des Lunes (Lune d'Argent) white Bordeaux blend is somewhat more muted on the nose than the previous edition (2012) with gooseberry predominating. Colour is very light yellow. Entry is clean, refreshing and citric - but with a creamier mouthfeel (Semillon dominates) than most other similar Bordeau... Read More

  • We talking about the striped bass with butter, lemon, capers and anchovies ... ... and capers, but I think a Domaine de Chevalier SB/Semillon blend from Graves would work just fine with the seabass, too. If Chablis I'd prefer some wood in its history, as JD seems to indicate. Otherwise a bigger Cote d'Or white, too.But champers is always an ea... Read More
