150 km south west of Bordeaux, in the middle of the Armagnac region is found Domaine Chiroulet in the little village of Larroque sur l’Osse. The geographic configuration is very similar to Tuscany, with many valleys, it is used to call the Tuscany of France. Situated on the highest slopes in Gascony, at around 180 metres altitude, the Chiroulet estate owes its name to the wind which whistles “Chiroula” in the local dialect. They cultivate 45 hectares of vines aged between 10 and 40 years old. My first experience with Gros Maseng. Ripe melon and peach blends with apricot, grass, and elderflower. The slight fizz on the tongue, coupled with the obvious influence of Sauvignon Blanc, makes this perfect for an encounter at an outdoor cafe' and some oysters. Fabulous value. Read More

From Dave's Domaine - wine blog - A blend of Gros-Manseng (50%) one of the indigenous varieties of Southwest France and not often seen here as well as Sauvignon Blanc (25%) and old vine Ugni Blanc (25%), which is most often used in making Cognac. The latter 2 grapes soak on the skins before fermentation, but not the Gros-Ma... Read More
