Situated between Biarritz and Lourdes in the South-West of France, the Jurançon owes its reputation to the kings of Navarra, who, during the night of 12th 13th December 1553, christened with a few drops of Jurançon the just born Henry (louis XIV's grand-father and first " Bourbon " to become King of France in 1589). Ever since, the Jurançon has been known as " King's wine ". As early as the 17th century, a trade was created with Northern Europe, and flourising in the 19th century, the Jurançon counted then 5577 hectares to only 900 hectares today.
