The estate is located at the top of the hillside bordering river La Loire and is thus the highest point of the Roche aux Moines. It enjoys a favourable microclimate and the sloping vineyard is particularly well exposed to south/south-west side of hillside. Domaine aux Moines vineyard offers the best, thanks to its exceptional location and exposition There is a micro-climate at the Domaine, thanks to its privilege orientation and ideal sunny location, sheltered from northerly wind and close to river La Loire that forms a huge water reservoir, enabling temperature regulation, neither too low in winter, nor too high in summer, and under the nearby Atlantic ocean influence, with no frost most of springs, that allows our vineyard those ideal growing circumstances. – Description from Dragac

Domaine aux Moines on Snooth

  • Savennières is the French derivation of Latin’s “vicus saponaris”, which means place of the soap. It almost sounds like it should be the birthplace of the trendy bath suds retailer Sabon, but its roots – rather literally – have much older grounding. This tiny appellation’s name stems from the soapwort flowers that bloom around the same time the ... Read More

  • A ridiculous number of trigger pullworthies in this new offering, many in their absolute drinking prime. Wish the shop was just down the street from me, rather than the ones that are. But then I'd have to live in NYC.  ;-(I love it when a guy drops 100 cases on a shop, just to 'make some space" in his cellar. Wonder what's going to be filling th... Read More

  • It is a true image, I’ll concede, but that’s not all they drink up ... to look closer at. Try: Domaine aux Moines Savennières Roche aux Moines. The only dry white from mother-daughter team Monique and Tessa Laroche is made from 100% Chenin Blanc. Deliciously mineral, oily and complex, this is a wine that ages, so look for older vintages and se... Read More

  • We spend the morning yesterday at Domaine aux Moines in Savennières with some guests from Houston, Texas and enjoyed a very interesting vertical tasting with Mme Laroche.  As you know, the Loire valley is a huge winemaking region and many winemakers in Anjou produce a whole plethora of wines making the tasting proposition a confusing one.  Tasti... • A big hello from the Loire valley in France. I'm an English wine trade professional who moved here to live in 2006. Based between Angers and Saumur, I'd be happy to hear from anyone who has questions about the Loire or has tasted something special they think I should know about. Look forward to hearing from you.
