It has become quite commonplace to remind everyone that the best wines are more the result of work in the vineyards than of the winemaker's talents, however impressive these may be. And those who work in the winery and cellars have humbly gone along with that. But 2008 has underscored the necessity for true balance and complementarity between vineyard and cellar work. Fungal diseases that we thought were now limited to less favourable climates than the northern Rhône valley returned to our hillsides, locally causing considerable losses in crop. This also slowed down the maturation process, and, in some parts of the DELAS FRERES estate, veraison of grapes only completed around August 20th. This was the case, for example, in plots like Combe Clos, part of Domaine des Grands Chemins, the firm' Read more »

Delas Frères on Snooth

  • Broke the SIWBM because it's a pre-arrival, so I don't need to store, ... ... not an enormous fan of Delas Freres, but that's mostly based on their S. Rhones, and I had a nice Cote Rotie from them a few years ago, so I asked for four of these and got three. Here's the hype from JJ Buckley (and, no, the points did not sway me):N. Rhone, France... • Delas Cotes du Ventoux 2012

Tight on the nose and not terribly impressive but what is there shows a blackberry jam edge and cinnamon spice notes and vanilla/powdered sugar accents. Bright, attractively lean and energetic in the mouth. This is not a rich wine, though it does deliver lovely, tense sour cherry and raspberry fruit on the palate. theres lively acidity here and... • Delas les Launes Crozes Hermitage Rouge 2009

This Delas Crozes Hermitage is lightish with a leathery prune, rye flour and cranberry (acidic fruit) nose. The body is medium with modest structure - though the balance is good and the fresh acidity is palate-cleansing. A good wine for lighter meats or on the patio. Drink now through 2015. 87 points.
