It has become quite commonplace to remind everyone that the best wines are more the result of work in the vineyards than of the winemaker's talents, however impressive these may be. The growing season was not an easy one this year. Exceptionally high rainfall (650 mm up to the end of August) made for a lot of work in the vineyards, and imposed some limits on what we could expect. Fungal diseases that we thought were now limited to less favourable climates than the northern Rhône valley returned to our hillsides, locally causing considerable losses in crop. This also slowed down the maturation process, and, in some parts of the DELAS FRERES estate, veraison of grapes only completed around August 20th. This was the case, for example, in plots like Combe Clos, part of Domaine des Grands Chemins, the firm' Read more »

  • Côte du Ventoux Delas 2008

The wine is a lovely deep ruby to purple color, and the nose is thick with ripe fruit, blackberry and plum, and a nice bit of spice that balances the fruit very well. There is also a good bit of earthiness too, somewhat reminiscent of the forest after a spring shower that reminds me of the flavors of black truffles. The wine is quite fruit for... Read More

  • Delas Frères Hermitage les Bessards 1995

The nose was deep, layered and constantly changing. It showed savory leather and beef jerky, and it then turned to noxious floral notes with chalky minerals and undergrowth. On the palate, it was balanced, juicy and savory with blackberry, pepper, and kale. The finish was clean and pure with great balanced acidity keeping it fresh. Read More

  • Delas Frères Hermitage les Bessards 1995

Exceptionally light and fruity on the nose, yet reveals a palette that is not in line with that! Light on the tannins and oak and tastes a tiny bit like aged Gewurztraminer, in a strange way Read More

  • Delas Frères Hermitage les Bessards 1995

Fermented tobacco, green olive juice and a nice touch of limestone. Elegant and refined in the mouth with early meaty, gamy juices followed by green tobacco, peppercorn, caper, herb, salt, black olive, mineral, smoke and stem. The structure here is rather light in appearance but firm in nature. The meat juice and green peppercorn notes linger on... Read More
