De Martino

Our winery was founded in 1934 by Pietro De Martino, who arrived in Chile in search of a place to satisfy his passion for winemaking. Looking for the perfect site, he found Isla de Maipo in the Maipo Valley, just 50 km (31 mi) from Santiago between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The village earned its name because it had been surrounded by a number of branches of the Maipo River until the early 20th century. A powerful earthquake and changes in climate have since dried up all but one large branch of the river. Our vineyards now stand on one of the former branches of the river, which lends the soil characteristics that are unique in the valley and particularly good for grape production. The property has grown tremendously since Don Pietro founded it so many years ago. It now has 300 organically managed hectares planted to vine and still maintains its sense of being a family winery. The third and fourth generations of the De Martino family now work in the winery every day. Today, more than Read more »

  • De Martino Carignan Single Vineyard El Leon Chile Maule 2007

    Snoothrank:

A bench mark producer of an outstanding array of wines from an equally outstanding list of terroir. The El Leon is a superb example of Carignan in Chile. This vines are well over 60 years old and producing great juice. This is a dense wine, and really requires a meal to be thoroughly enjoyed. A slight bell pepper taste can turn some people off t... • De Martino Carignan Single Vineyard El Leon Chile Maule 2007

    Snoothrank:

Dense purple color with short pink rim, nose reticent today but notes of red cherry. Very dense with high tannin, high alcohol, some very ripe mulberry notes and hints of vanilla. Big and powerful with very sweet ripe fruit and incredible intensity, has potential to age, really delicious. Read More

  • Sauvignon Blanc Maipo Valley de Martino Südamerika Chile 2006

    Snoothrank:

A blend of 66% Malbec and 34% Carmenere with a SRP of $45. Dark red in color with aromas of dark chocolate and concord grapes. Flavors of fruit and bell pepper, prominent flavors in both Malbec and Carmenere, seemed to be fighting each other with neither one being able to win. While I didnt dislike the wine, I dont know that I could justify p... Read More

  • Sauvignon Blanc Maipo Valley de Martino Südamerika Chile 2006

    Snoothrank:

The lesson I learned about De Martino wines is that they are spicy. This is yet another spicy wine. This one is smooth and hearty. Give me some dark chocolate, a basket of strawberries, A rom-com movie, and a bottle of this wine, and I'm set for the evening.91/100 Read More

  • De Martino Legado Reserva Syrah Choapa Valley Wine Choose One Choose One Choose One Choose One Choose One 2008

    Snoothrank:

Smells like a moldy basement, but in a homely, familiar sense. It's like a basket of mixed red berries and a spice cabinet had their honeymoon in my grandma's basement.89/100 Read More

  • De Martino Cabernet-Malbec 2008

    Snoothrank:

Smoky like a Middle Eastern hookah bar and spicy like a holiday bread. Seductively slow, long legs. This wine is begging for attention, and it has mine.87/100 Read More

  • De Martino Chardonnay Legado Reserva Legado 2008

    Snoothrank:

Super tart at first, but it settles down after a few sips. Swish it around in your mouth for a little tingle. Tastes like it was aged in oak, which I feel is too strong. The oak overpowers the grape.75/100 Read More
